Personally I shall stick to my usual frappe. A good spoonful of Nescafe whizzed up in ice cold water, mine has no sugar and just a little milk, thank you.

I would rather have coffee ice cream and leave a coffee drink to be drunk hot.

Just read about this recommendation in today's Observer - it looks really great: https://www.vivino.com/GB/en/pt-lixa-va ... /w/7378686

Only 9.5% a big plus.

ETA, I can't find any info on whether it is oaked or not, and if it is, then I would avoid it.

I don’t think vinho verde is ever oaked, it’s not the style or the appellation

I like a good vv but experience is that in the U.K. they aren’t always good, if the Observer recommended it then we’ll worth a try

It seems Buckfast is getting classy.

DS1 will be delighted   . For someone who likes the finer things in life when it comes to food and drink he's never lost the taste for it he acquired in his teens! Horrible stuff IMHO - tastes like cough bottle!

Just drinking a chilled glass of this at DS1s. Far, far better than Seedlip or any of the other brands.

I'm finding M&S Peruvian coffee rather tasty.

That's good to know, WW, the Asda one is quite decent, too.

Yes it's rather lovely and a fraction of the cost on the zero alcohol gins but does taste as though you are having a G&T.

A friend came for dinner few weeks ago.
She was driving so she brought a selection of soft drinks, then consumed what I had on offer and left hers behind.

I'm fed up of it in my fridge so after a 10-hour day at work I have gone retro and poured myself a whisky with her dry ginger.
Haven't had one for decades.

I really like the flavour but I'm sure it wasn't this sweet in the 80s.

I think you may be right WW. I find a lot of stuff very over sweet and add lemon juice to counteract this.

I even add lime juice to lime and soda as it is a tad on the sickly side.

Interestingly tonight (being the w/e) I had a gin and tonic (OK I had 2) and it was with Schwepps tonic and how nice was that..... mainly why I had 2 of them... !!!

Interesting. I find Schweppes one of the worst tonic waters, sickly sweet. It has to be Fevertree for me.

Just shows we're all different.

I really like the Fevertree light Indian tonic ... the Waitrose tonic is good too (not the sugar-free ... don't like that at all). I'm really not keen on Schweppes ... even the one that's not sugar free has a sort of over-sweet aspartame flavour .... and as for flavoured tonics ... don't get me started

I like the Schweppes signature crisp tonic. Not keen on their others. I really struggle to get a tonic that isn’t too sweet.

Not keen on lime cordial and soda but love soda water with a slice of citrus.

I like the regular Schweppes and the FeverTree with the yellow label, think that's the full fat one too.
Not terribly keen on FeverTree light but I enjoy the Mediterranean and Aromatic ones if the gin is less tasty.

It will certainly be a while before I go down the whisky and ginger route again though.

as for flavoured tonics

Aldi does a cucumber tonic that is quite simply nasty.
Ruined my g&t.

Some people can taste the saccharin in Schweppes and don't like it - there's still saccharin in all of the flavours, not just Slimline

Essential Waitrose is saccharin free but 12.4g sugar per 100ml :o Fevertree has only 7.1g which is less than Schweppes 7.8g so heaven only knows how Fevertree manages to be so over sweet - lack of acidity maybe? Fevertree still about the best I think, still waiting for an extra dry tonic

Yes, I've always found the saccharin a problem in tonic - sadly I don't have the gin with it, but quite like it as a "grown-up" pretend (non-)alcoholic tipple. If Fevertree doesn't have it, I will definitely give it a try.
Thank you for doing the sugar research, Sue :thumbsup :D
