Aubergines

Post by Gruney »

I have aborted today's dinner - it was to be a lamb, aubergine and olive stew, from the latest Delicious mag. It involved dry frying aubergine chunks, at the outset. I could only get small, not baby, aubergines, which were quite firm to the touch. On chopping it was immediately obvious that the seeds were black, and the flesh around them, dark brown. I know aubergines discolour quickly on contact with the air but this was not the same. As I said, I decided not to proceed - was I right, do you think?

I'd have been the same as you - it doesn't seem right.

It sounds as if you were sold old, overripe fruit. There are small varieties as well as slender types of aubergine.
