Thanks for the heads up!
Aldi has a rather good range of Greek specialities at the moment. Odysea (I think). Think gigantes, caperberries...

Odysea is quite widely available - Sainsbury, independents. The potted Hakidiki and large Kalamata olives are very nice, I wonder if Aldi prices are better?

The large Lidl on Western Ave, Acton, had everything I wanted from the Italian week, and also something I saw for the first time, which is a slab of mascarpone/gorgonzola - delicious. We had it for lunch on the Lidl soft wholemeal rolls (also on offer) with soup. lick lips

Plenty of provolone piccante and the very nice pasta we like (spinach "ears" and multicoloured, slender twisty things). Parmesan, artichokes etc etc. and lots that was tempting but I didn't succomb to!

Oops, typed it without my reading glasses so had to go back and make a lot of corrections

I think Acton is a bit far to go for provolone piccante, alas. It is strangely hard to find even in London.

I went to stock up yesterday, as they have reduced some of the prices.

My Lidl didn't seem to bother with French week.

American week just started. They are selling Duff beer :)

Lidl was full of Christmas things today. Of course, I couldn't possibly buy mince pies etc however tempting, but could justify Favorina Domino cakes as they have no associations for me, having not heard of them before. Big mistake. These require the sort of will power that Jaffa cakes do. Not dissimilar in fact. They have a layer of citrusy fruity jelly stuff, some marzipan and possibly marshmallow, and are coated with chocolate. They are very small. And very sweet. Buy at your peril if you like such things. In the Christmas section. Not to be confused with some biscuits of the same name.

American week starts this Thursday in Cyprus, I won't bother, I did buy some cheeses during French week.
I am resisting buying Stollen Bites.

I think it's officially Eastern European 'week' here - we had America a few weeks back - but they don't have much of anything in my tiny high street Lidl. Just some 'vegetable salad' which looked like sauerkraut.

Oh those Stollen bites...

I just looked at the Lidl brochures - Eastern Europe this week, probably more interesting to E Europens than the rest of us, but from Thursday it's flavours of Germany, and they are offering both German mustard and Nurnburger Bratwursten, very nice little sausages, which used to be regular stock but now only turn up as specials lick lips

Even on Lidl UK Google offers ot translate the brochure for you

Guilty secret coming out...... I have lustings after the XXL bags of peanut flips that are in stock at the moment with american week. I am besotted with the damn things. I bought 2 giant bags - should last until Ch****mas.

Also bought some rather nice chicken liver parfait with Madeira. I had some for supper last night - very delish. Their Polish and smoked meats are tempting my appetite back bit by bit.

Whilst in Lidl the other day, spotted and bought truffle mayo. Have not tried it yet but I have to be in the right mood for anything truffley.

On my last visit to Lidls I found (German) Gewurz curry (sp) crisps. They are rather moreish..... We bought both classic and scharf varieties of the sauce when we went to Germany in June last. The price had gone up and the pack sizes down !

In Aldi yesterday I picked up (for Crimbo) mince pie mulled wine and a ginger variety. I also bought a multi coloured luxury 3m tinsel strip that will be my festive boa on the ship ! I have to admit to feeling rather festive at the moment. Trying to get my head around probably spending it in shorts ! !

Not Aldi, but on buying Christmas booze early, Tesco was selling Baileys half price (£8.00), and I asked myself if I dared buying it this early, could I really wait till Christmas before opening it.

Bottom line, I lasted half an hour. I don't think the bottle will see November out, let alone there being any left at Christmas. Oh dear, I shouldn't have mentioned it, I feel a Baileys coming on...
