TV and Online Cooking Shows
Re: TV and Online Cooking Shows
Sadly departed
I watched an episode of his "No Reservations" the other day, and I felt let down because it was more of a travelogue than a foodie programme, and in the brief foodie moments every dish he tried he enthused over as if he'd never had anything like it before, in a most unconvincing way.
I see he dragged it out for 9 series, so I guess it was getting a little thin on the ground in the later episodes.

Just received the latest list of events from the British Library. They are doing them online. Members get priority booking so I don't know if they hog all the places or not! There is a charge. There are several foodie evenings including HFW and Claudia Roden which look good.

Odd that she's doing a talk on Jewish food; the book concerned was published 26 years ago! I almost bought a book on Jewish cookery a while back from a charity shop, I wonder if it was hers - there wasn't much of interest in it.
Re: TV and Online Cooking Shows
One of my friends is forever saying how good Roden's Jewish Food is.
I used Evelyn Rose a lot back in the 80s - made her bagels! They were great!

Well, Claudia is Jewish so I don’t suppose she thinks it odd to talk about Jewish food at any time
A new Nigella’ is on the horizon, no dates but presumably in the run up to Christmas

I went to a Guardian Live talk about Ottolenghi’s new book Flavour written with Ixta Belfrage, moderated by Felicity Cloake. Quite entertaining, I leaned that Ixta is pronounced Ee-sta and it’s a Mexican name (I think)

I see the talks include Ken Hom and Fuchsia Dunlop in conversation - that’s the talk I was planning to go to live in Spring

I've got, or had, her Jewish book somewhere. It's very interesting on the differences between Ashkenazi and Sephardi food IIRC.

I rather like the way that Zoom etc has opened these things to a much wider audience. Not so good for locals of course, not quite the same as the real thing!
It'll be interesting to see what Nigella has put together to keep up with modern trends.

Here's the specific link to the British Library Food Season, it's quite hard to find from the BL website

A friend in Oz says the Australian version of Back in Time ... is pretty good - at least she throws a hissy fit if she misses it!

Would love to see that. I'm assuming there's no way we can view it here?

Yes ...I liked the look of the strawberry cup cakes too But that sweet pizza and toad in the hole both looked delicious .. I love her natural enthusiasm / exciteableness (is that a real word ?)
Re: TV and Online Cooking Shows
So looks so colourful and happy. Loved the programme, the Mary Berry one earlier not so much.
Whilst I enjoyed seeing her baking again, I can’t say I can see myself making any of the items she baked, it all seemed jaw achingly sweet.

Re: TV and Online Cooking Shows
I need to eat my words. I've just watched the latest episode of the new Jamie Oliver series - inspired by ltc who seems to be making rather good things from her book. I think that on this occasion I can put up with his hair because the food looked really modern and interesting. I have ordered the book - and one for DD as well. . I could have had Kindle but like a book. Now, where can I make room for it?
I haven't watched Nadiya yet. I am not usually keen on the way she spices good old British fayre up - I hope I won't need to eat my words again!

I've never been a great JO fan either, EM, but perhaps we should give the latest series a go!
We were given his Italian Food several years ago and there are a handful of recipes we've really adopted and make a lot.

No I won't. Predictably, she put garam masala in Toad in the Hole .

em, now that is exactly why i like her programme, she is thinking outside the box, a new twist, this is why i watch them, it makes 1 think how recipes can be adapted. we even discussed an italian version, with tomatoes, aubergine, herb flavoured veal meatballs and maybe some cheese grated over the top.....
a root mix roasted then batter over the top with maybe a scattering of mixed herbs.
hungry now..... and its only 10 past 7 in the morning....
