Now I do love coffee ice cream! I used to buy this in Villers-sur-Mer in Normandy at a small place. Delicious!

I'm off the hard stuff at the moment and yesterday my daughter served me Fevertree Mexican Lime Soda. It's absolutely lovely (but difficult to find). The Yuzu really adds something.

I think Yuzu is a wonderful ingredient. I never think to make posh drinks just for myself and in these times visitors are scarce! It sounds lovely.

Ocado sells it. Sounds nice - think I'll have to try it. :D

I would really enjoy that and it sounds so refreshing. Mind you I can buy small bottles of Yuzu, from Waitrose and Booths I think, but I will watch out for it. Thanks for the mention PP.

In a chance encounter yesterday, I was reminded of a beverage that I haven’t seen in years. Instant Postum.

It was a regular in our house when I was at school. Is it still around?

Instant Postum

What on earth is that??
Sounds like a way of making a marsupial from nothing. :gonzo :gonzo

I'd never heard of it either. Those who abstained from drinks containing caffeine in my childhood tended to drink watery cocoa. Later, Barleycup fitted the bill.

I remember trying Barleycup when I was avoiding caffeine because of migraine, yuk, I'd guess Postum is fairly similar

Instant carob was quite OK though (I couldn't have chocolate either)

I had heard of Instant Postum, but had never tried it. I can remember Bournvita from my childhood and Horlicks. I used to like Horlicks tablets.

I thought they still did Bournvita!

At £32.98 a pack, it's gone up a bit since my day:

Nestlės Milo is quite similar to Bournvita iirc, and you can still get it it in shops and even mainstream supermarkets catering to African and Caribbean communities

I seem to remember Milo being popular in Australia and a returned relative being very disappointed when it disappeared from supermarket shelves here. She was pleased when it reappeared in some places.

I drank Barleycup for ages but don't like it now. Luckily, I don't mind caffeine!

Yes, but Sakkarin, it says "Used condition".  I just can't believe that they're asking that price unless it's an antique?

I remember Bournvita.

In my 20s I had friends who were publicans.
I used to go down for the weekend and help. We regularly had a Bournvita in the early hours.

I used to like Horlicks tablets too.
I bought a jar of the stuff a couple of years ago but I really didn't enjoy it.
Much prefer Ovaltine if I'm looking for a soothing evening beverage.

If you look at the Horlicks ingredients, the main one is wheat flour. :o
