Re: Bargain Basement
I’ll look into the Lidl app, though if not buying alcohol I have trouble getting to £25 in there. Could stock up on cheese
One thing I noticed in Morrison’s was that the lower priced and own brand cleaning products are back at last, I’ve been paying £3 and more for Dettol anti- bacterial spray but Morrison’s own is 85p

You can buy other stuff!
I'm going to stock up on free-range chicken for the freezer.
Re: Bargain Basement
That's true Pampy, but there were a few things that I wanted from Waitrose, also it gave my car a bit of a run which it needed. I suppose I could do all my shopping in Lidl, because I certainly wouldn't starve and it is now my nearest supermarket. Maybe next week!
Re: Bargain Basement
Sounds like a good deal Renee, but couldn't find anything about the offer, however check out the customer responses on the download page, someone suggests that there is grief ahead if you try and redeem a coupon. Where did you find the offer info, is it after you download the app?

Lidl's website is rubbish anyway, it looks as if the app is just a mirror of it. I want product details and prices, not offer info which is often not current.
I checked last month's Lidl spend, and I spent £85 there, so it would actually be worthwhile for me.

Re: Bargain Basement
My favourite wine from Lidl is the South African Pinotage, which is down at the bottom. They still have the wine and the price is £3.89. I couldn't find it on the website.

Re: Bargain Basement
I went to a different Waitrose this morning (Northwood) and they had these RTC.

I bought three and have frozen them. Not quite sure yet what to use them for.

Re: Bargain Basement
I moaned a while back about only having a "Little Waitrose" locally - with the closure of our town centre John Lewis, even that's now gone, so Northwood is now my nearest Waitrose (I don't count the service station Mini Waitrose at the Dome roundabout)

Ricky is my nearest and as you say, much bigger ... I love to treat myself to a monthly stroll round that one. They have a coffee shop there too - we could have a mini meet

Other than all the Waitrose coffee shops have been closed for nearly 5 months Pat that’s a nice idea.

I haven't been back since before lockdown - but as other coffee shops have now opened, I thought theirs might have too

The one we would use if we did 'click and collect' are using the closed cafe area for this.

Re: Bargain Basement
I had a look at the old coffee shop at South Harrow today. It looks a bit forlorn. They had been using it as an NHS shoppers area but that seems to have fallen by the wayside.

Re: Bargain Basement
In Morrison's yesterday I noticed their own brand ground coffees being sold off at £1.25 per 227g bag, bargain, they are pretty good
Re: Bargain Basement
Dear me, they have a coffee that goes up to strength SIX, I thought the scale only went up to 5. My strength tolerance is between 3 and 4...

Am toying with a trip (6 mile cycle there and back) but am reminded that Lidl's French blend is only £1.09. Maybe that's what prompted the reduction, it isn't flashed as a special offer. Shame it's not their Sumatran that's going for £1.25.
Just spotted that their beans (only expresso and italian blend) are going for £1.25 too. Lidl £1.69.

Re: Bargain Basement
It was flashed on the shelf edge, maybe because it was a lower price than before, I don't read the small print if I don't need to
Chipotle Flakes
Oh dear, I just cycled to Morrisons and completely forgot about the coffees!
My jar of Sainsbury's Chipotle Chilli Flakes has nearly run out, and in a trip to Morrisons just now, at 95p their Chipotle flakes seemed cheaper. However on getting home I found that the Sainos pot was 45g and the Morrisons just 30g, so it was a false economy. I've checked out the other contenders online and worked out the relative costs so you know the score...
Sainsbury's £1.00 for 45g = £2.22 per 100g
Asda £0.90 for 40g = £2.25 per 100g
Morrisons £0.95 for 30g = £3.17 per 100g
Tesco £1.20 for 37g = £3.24 per 100g
M&S (Ocado) £2.57 for 34g = £7.56 per 100g
Bart (Ocado Price) £2.20 for 28g = £7.86 per 100g
ONLINE SPECIALISTS:
Mexgrocer POWDER £2.65 for 100g = £2.65 for 100g + delivery
Mexgrocer WHOLE Chipotle £2.80 for 40g = £7.00 per 100g + delivery
Cool Chile Company £3.50 for 40g = £8.75 per 100g + delivery
Cool Chile Company WHOLE £3.95 for 40g = £9.88 per 100g + delivery
The delivery ones are much, much cheaper by the kilo. Odd that whole chillies are more expensive than the flakes/powder.

Goodness, what differences! Do you think that the quality is similar (or that it matters)?

Re: Bargain Basement
Possibly the flakes and powder are made from broken chillies? That might explain them being cheaper
Spice Shop chipotle flakes are a stonking £4.35 per 25g bag = £17.4 per 100g
I think that's where I got mine but as they come in a sachet I've transferred them to an anonymous jar, no delivery as I bought them in the Brighton shop. Very coarse flake
Steenberg's Crushed Chilpotle, often the best in my experience are only £2.60 for 40g = £6.50 per 100g and they come in a nice reusable jar (I have never chucked a Steenberg's jar)
https://steenbergs.co.uk/chile-chilpotl ... 40g-chi042
So the variation continues in the posh ranges
