Why stone fruit anyway and not tree fruits? I know of no tree fruits without stones, nor ground fruits with stones. Is it that with some stones, the fruit is the by product of oils extracted from the stone? Curious.

And yet, many of them are recommended once sozzled. I haven't checked to see if there are any e.g. nettle weed recipes that pair with stoned fruit yet...

Nearly all fruit have 'stones' of some kind - these are the seeds which, in the wild, would be the means of reproduction.

Even in the centre of bananas you can see what would have been seeds before they were cultivated to be less prominent.

I can't think of many fruit which doesn't have seeds (pips or stones) of some kind. The only thing that springs to mind at the moment is rhubarb, which I believe is technically a vegetable and reproduces differently.

well, there is a botanical difference between the stone of a drupe and pips, berries, currants, seeds etc. they may all contain 'seeds', a means of sexual reproduction but the forms are different. you can't really call the seeds on a strawberry, 'stones'.

I’ve just arrived at my French house and my apricot tree looks wonderful. I’m going to make some apricot curd.

I`ve just learned two new words on here. Drupe and mahlep.
Plus the unusual vision of a stoned apricot staggering out of the Dog & Fox. :gonzo :gonzo
