Haven't had a rock cake in years , they look lovely . I do miss my food processor sometimes, I think they're a very useful bit of kit

They look lovely! I used to love rock cakes as a child but have never had much luck with them as an adult. I never seem to get the taste or consistency right despite trying different recipes, some from books where all the other recipes work well.

They look really smart.
Rock cakes was the first thing I ever made at school in Domestic Science.

Re: Rock cakes made with food processor
I wouldn't be without a food processor. We had a RoboChef in the mid seventies, then a KitchenAid from the nineties, and now a Magimix. OH has a Kenwood Chef for his bread making. I don't use it at all (maybe once a year for the Christmas Dundee Cake).
Rock cakes and raspberry buns were the first baking I did at school in Domestic Science lessons. Maybe it was part of a national curriculum seeing as a few of us recall this lesson. I have to say that learning about food groups, minerals and vitamins were my favourite subjects (a bit more cerebral). I didn't really learn to cook until I got married.

Pretty much a rock cake without fruit.
Make a dimple in the top with your thumb and fill it with raspberry jam.

Not sure about that, I've never had one.
Mum was a professional baker and that is how she made raspberry buns.
Could be a regional thing I suppose.

Haven’t had a rock cake in years. A burnt currant on top always seemed inevitable
The Betty’s Fat rascal is more of a rock cake / scone cross it seems, no jam, the red is glacé cherry

My mum used to make raspberry buns, the recipe called them Raspberry Thumbprints but we called them buns

Re: Rock cakes made with food processor
Meant to add - we assumed the raspberry buns were the “jammy buns” so beloved of Billy Bunter and other schoolchildren in classic stories - but does anyone know different?
Re: Rock cakes made with food processor
When I was in infant school, we used to make jam tarts - always done in the afternoon so we could use the ovens which were still hot from making dinners.
