Re: Spinach
I may well have been me - it's how most US recipes deal with it, which is where I learned it
I'm honoured to say I posted it because Ian in France asked if there was a better way of dealing with it than cooking from frozen, as recommended on the packet
Returning to the lentil and spinach dish, I hadn't actually looked at the recipe for a while, and in fact I tend to vary the flavourings quite a bit, tending to use a bit more ginger and ground spices and slightly less chilli

I have a memory of that discussion Sue ... so it must’ve been you I picked that tip up from.

They look rather good, Mark.
Tony's just sent this link to me, for Nigel's tortelinni with spinach sauce: https://www.theguardian.com/food/2020/a ... nach-sauce
Our local delicatessen/ bakery is still open. He'll have superior quality pasta in there.

Re: Spinach
Well I made the Nigel tortelinni recipe with my bag of spinach.
And lovely it is too.
There's room for additions if you want a tweak, such as pinenuts or chilli for some pizzazz. But I did like the simplicity.

Don’t recognise her at all.
Re: Spinach
Is it necessary to recognise her? The recipe, albeit perhaps a tad sweet for me, involves spinach.
Gill, How much spinach per banana and are there any other ingredients? I have to increase banana and spinach intake for health reasons.

Actually in this case Luca yes because the recipe looks absolutely bonkers if you are a spinach lover, and any cook/chef who says don't worry you don't taste it is on a hiding to nothing with me if it's your main ingredient.

Re: Spinach
She’s a New Zealander so not surprising we don’t recognise her, though I don’t think it’s much of a recipe - she might as well have said start with banana and coconut milk, then, whatever - can’t see it working at all without the optional lime
I wonder if she uses what is called New Zealand (perpetual) spinach? No idea if it is actually popular in NZ but it’s pretty tasteless

Re: Spinach
i agree with gill, i think they look ok (haven't we been talking about beetroot in cake? then there's courgette cake and carrot cake) and if it's a way for someone to hide spinach in a lolly to get children to eat more greens, even better.
Re: Spinach
Info on https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nadia_Lim. Sounds like a pretty solid rep . Smoothies would be a great way to incorporate bananas and spinach together .

Re: Spinach
I didn't think this looked very nice originally. However, mention of smoothies reminded me how, when liquidised or juiced, you hope to be presented with an enhanced blend of the five specific tastes to replace texture and what seem to be the strangest combinations work.
For that reason, I think that this would work and for the same reason, yes, you'd need the lime. Freezing would be an added dimension.

Re: Spinach
Hi Luca
I have a small smoothie maker (400mil I think). And usually buy the small bananas.
Add a handful of washed spinach.
If your blitzer struggles to blend, add a little (soya) milk.
Keep on top of that balanced diet now!

Thanks Gill. I shall have that tomorrow and will make in my Nutribullet which I haven’t been using enough lately.
I’m working on the well balanced diet but my stomach has shrunk and I can only eat small amounts at a time. Therefore I’m trying to eat several times a day. Smoothies for breakfast is the plan. I have a considerable amount of frozen berries, bananas and loads of different nuts and seeds plus oats and spinach.
Re: Spinach
You go for it Luca :~ )
We're more of a kale bunch chez nous. It's my leafy greens preference as it's more robust - brassica version of spinach and I prefer the flavour and versatility. Same MO as spinach tho. I often blanch and freeze. Fresh or frozen it readily goes by a handful or two into all sorts of things - quiches, soups, curries, pizza toppings, omelettes, pasta sauces, savoury med & middle eastern type filo pastries with white cheeses or yoghurt ....
And vege lasgana. So good.
