Masterchef is upon us

Re: Masterchef is upon us
There were a few contenders that got their marching orders prematurely after a bad day at the office. At least they don't have many of the team projects that the US version seems to have. That's a surefire way of getting rid of a decent cook long before they should be leaving by teaming them with an argumentative klutz.
Re: Masterchef is upon us
I reckon Sandy has been kept for the novelty factor, knowing she'll make something off the wall. I'm thinking Thomas to win too as he's moved forward and David made a seriously uninspiring dish so he's certainly not infallible.
Not long to wait now, the final being at 7.30 to 8.30pm tonight (Fri).

OH favours Thomas, he reckons that once this is all over people will be very keen to go to a pub again with really great food - as Thomas serves up. In general I didn't get the feeling that the standard was particularly high this series. I'm sure it's been better in the past.
I don't think that the standard is as high either, glad that it is not just me.
Does anyone know the price of that patisserie? I bet that it way beyond the common herd like me

HAAA! They do takeaway!
The golden egg is a tenner, but the cork is just a fiver...
A couple of the other featured dishes there too!

Tee hee, you had me going for a minute. I've just checked to make sure it is Friday today and I'm not going gaga totally. It is, so the final is certainly scheduled for tonight...
Re: Masterchef is upon us
A tenner for half an eggshell of food? Bargain. Well, as long as it's not my tenner

I'm going potty, Jeral. I thought it was Thursday today!
Sorry about that.
I'm surprised at those prices, Sakkers.
Cheaper than Fortnums.

I wouldn't know, I'm more familiar with Poundland prices!Cheaper than Fortnums
It may only be 5 quid for that cork, but you can get a whole bottle for only £3.99 at Lidl...

Just a warning that Masterchef is very early tonight - at 7.30 - so don't get caught out if you were intending to watch it!

Re: Masterchef is upon us
I was disappointed for David, he didn't seem to grow in stature during the semis.
If only he'd made a couli for his pud. It looked so dry.
And whilst we are on if onlys, if only Sandy had made a decent main.
She probably could have won.
Well done, Thomas. The best throughout the competition. His finals dishes were on the dull side though! Nice but dull.

I thought that it was rather underwhelming. Does anyone else get bored by the first twenty minutes of contestant biographies.?

Re: Masterchef is upon us
I was happy Thomas won and thought his meal reflected the type of cook he wants to be. He's my kind of cook - good ingredients cooked well and not faffed about with too much.
Re: Masterchef is upon us
Yes, we thought Thomas came out on top in the final, which we watched last night. I studiously avoided this thread all day yesterday
In general, I think you're right Gill, he was probably one of the most consistent competitors, if less exciting or innovative. Slow and steady wins the race? But as LTC says, he cooked good ingredients well and wasn't very faffy. Quite enjoyed seeing him going shopping in Tooting, very much the other side of London from us! And I bet David's shop in Greenwich gets a load of new customers!
Any idea why Sandy came to England "on her own" when she was 13 or 14? Did she leave her parents and family back in Macau? The bits and pieces I've found on her don't say why she came, or that she came on her own, just that she came and could hardly speak English.
I agree if only David had made a coulis with his pudd. It did look awfully dry.

Re: Masterchef is upon us
Just seen a trailer for Sleb MasterChef, stats on Wed.
As usual I didn't recognise any of the contestants.
I will probably give it a go though.
