YEAST
I wonder how long I can save them for special treats
Not so long, they do dry out.
I took a big Milanese pannetone to the office in February left from Christmas. And the Italians moaned it tasted old.
Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
They've all gone already anyway, pig that I am, as have two packs of half price Lidl chocolate stollen bites...
Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
B&M Stores currently have both Starbucks Original Blend ground coffee and Starbucks Expresso Blend BEANS for £1 each. I'm about to try the beans, but I suspect they'll be too strong for me, as expresso blends usually are.

Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
I'm debating whether to risk a kilogram pack of Italian coffee beans in the local health food shop, £8.50 which is good if they are nice, but I can't find out much about it, Caffé del Presidente, can't read the package as it is in small print and also in Italian and an online search tells me that the brand exists, that they have a flagship coffee shop in Naples but mainly wholesale, and they don't show their fill range of blends on the site, which is minimal - in particualr no info on the blend in the shop.
Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
Great price, would they keep? In practice I don't think I've found ANY beans that I'd consider undrinkable, the recent £1 B&M packet that I didn't consider a contender was ready-ground. Even the Starbucks expresso beans I enjoyed, although probably a bit too strong for me.

Is B&M where Homebase used to be in Watford Sakkarin ? I always keep my (ground) coffee beans in the freezer as advised by the someone from Taylors of Harrogate at a food fare I went to a few years ago ..
Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
No, it's in the old Clements by the flyover, but it seems to be very much "when it's gone, it's gone", they were down to just 4 packs when I popped in 3 days after my original post, and the previous "Blonde Roast" packs I mentioned a while back never reappeared.

Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
Lidl and Aldi both £3.50 for 250ml Grade A Maple Syrup
I saw that £2.99 Cab Sauv, can it really be any good?
The £3.00 chardonnay I bought a couple of months back was great for cooking, not so much for drinking, tastes very fruity, but of apples not grapes. I'm not really a wine drinker, but I still test the wine before I use it, and some are good enough that I'll occasionally sneak a small glassful for myself. I'm not tempted to do that with it, but I am also not tempted to pour it down the sink, which some cheap wines I sadly am tempted to do.

Are the other Maple Syrups Certified Organic This has the soil association mark ...
Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
Ah, probably not...
I just read the most dreadful review of the Aldi product on their website, although I am aware that it may have been posted by someone from Lidl...

Duchy Organic is certified.
Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
No, I didn't really like the £2.99 Cab Sauv which had been reduced from about £4.50. There wasn't any depth to the flavour.
Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
I have felt annoyed over the years that toothpaste tubes have shrunk and now contain only 75ml. I always buy one for sensitive teeth but watch out for reductions.
On a visit to Lidl, I noticed Dentalux, Complex 5, Sensitive Plus, so bought a tube. It contains 125ml and after checking the price online it is 69p! I haven't started it yet and will see how it goes when I do and see if it works as well as the Colgate and other makes for sensitive teeth.
