Yes I’ve moaned about the trimming of bunched coriander to remove roots before
The bonus is that the roots bought in a pack are much more substantial

Do you mean roots sold on their own? I don't remember ever having seen that!

From Loon Fung
Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
Blimey! Nope, definitely never seen them sold like that. I guess it's become a necessity because of the trimming...
In recent times I've used stalks instead, although I don't make Thai dishes very often these days

Thanks for the info Gill and for you Sakkarin about the chicken.
Just need to get the cabbage and Parmesan from Asda later today.
Thinking of 'Piggy', I was with people in Taipei who all said 'yah' instead of 'yes' or should that be 'yis'? Made me giggle!

Gill I made your soup and most delicious it was! The photo was taken before I transferred to a bowl and added the Parmesan. I bought a pack of ready sliced chorizo from Sainsbury's which was in a pack which had four compartments.
Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
That looks very hearty!
Green Curry Friday and Massaman Curry yesterday here, picked up on Stokey's Thai thing.
Courtesy of Wotwine, I discovered that the new Lidl stocks a French Chardonnay it values at £7 that sells for £4.79. Courtesy of Lidl, it's on special offer this week at £3.29. How many bottles should I get?

Soup Looks good Renée
Try one bottle of the chardonnay first maybe?
Yesterday i did nothing Thai, I made a casserole with pig cheeks, the usual veg, a quince and cider. I bought a bottle of Merry Down, which was a good choice for cooking as dry, not very fizzy, and it has something of a quince flavour. Every tim I cook with it I wonder why I don’t buy cider more often, it’s good stuff (well the real stuff is)

Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
Nice one, Renee.
There's also a sort of variation on the bean and cabbage soup, you might dabble with another time, ribollita. https://www.rivercottage.net/recipes/ribollita
I should go to Lidl to get our one bottle of red wine. Any recommendations for a dry red?
Casserole sounds excellent Sue.
I cooked a chicken dish in the oven yesterday whilst we were out at the flicks, but Tony for the first time this year said, let's go out for a meal.
So we went to our fabulous Thai restaurant next door to the Champignon Sauvage.
I took photos, which I'll put on the other thread ...............

Tastes better with spring onions. Or as Torode would say, "sprunions".
Couldn't find any eggplant in Tesco for the moussaka I'm making later, so I'm using aubergine instead
EDIT: "Scallions" sounds like a disease...
Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
I'm confused about what are called "green onions" in the USA. Are these spring onions? If they are scallions, why not call them that so are green onions something different? Ta.
Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
Of course, what I really meant was "Japanese bunching onions".

Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
I only said scallions 'cos it's an American recipe and that's what is listed in the recipe.I used spring onions of course.
Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
Thanks for the video explanation Sakkarin
Incidentally, one of the following videos showed a stainless steel omelette pan that food stuck in. Once cleaned, the cook heated a Tbsp or so of some veg oil and added the chopped green tops of scallions, gently sizzling until charred, then wiped it all out. Hey presto, non stick again. Seemingly something to do with the acid(?) in the onions reacting with the steel to form a smooth surface. Not a permanent fix.

I'm having the leftover soup today Gill with plenty of Parmesan grated on top. Thanks for the Ribollita recipe. That's one that I would enjoy.
Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
Cod tonight with med veg and new potatoes roasted with garlic and balsamic . There was a large bag of spinach at work so wilted that down and stirred it through . Although cods not the most exciting fish , seasoned it well and was pretty good
Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
My green curry and massaman curry from earlier in the week...
Lidl do a 200g jar of red curry paste for 68p, so I grabbed one and there'll be a red curry to follow.
