Hairy bikers - route 66
Greets all
In todays daily express Saturday magazine, there was an article on the HB and the upcoming series
According to info there, it is set for Thursday nights at 8pm London time/3pm east coast USA time on BBC 2. Depending on what is going on, I may try to tune in

Thought the first epi was good. Liked the recipes, especially the baklava and the braciole. Scenery looked good.
Made it to the download circuit and the BBC iPlayer

Re: Hairy bikers - route 66
are they stopping at The Cozy Dog (or could be Corn Dog, can't remember) Café? The one with the singing hotdogs and Route 66 memorabilia.
They sell hotdogs encased in batter and fried. You get a mound of fries too. Heart attack follows later.

Enjoyed the first programme ... but those beef rolls dipped in gravy/cooking liquid made me feel ill (and I can eat most things) and the men’s demonstration of how to eat them reminded me of nothing so much as a yard of my father’s porkers with their snouts in the trough.

Binky
Thanks for the tip

Dont recall if that has been seen or not. Corn dogs are a tradition here in the states. Almost anything on a stick, covered in batter and deep fried gets my vote

Suffs
as far as the sammiches eaten while they were standing up, they looked good to me. Or as we say, the messier it is the better it tastes. My thought is when will it hit the shores of the UK or is there something like that already???

[my bold]
Hi, messy sandwiches don't really exist here. There are torpedo shops "Subway" and some burger shops where you build your own from choice of fillings, so can be big but still aren't particularly messy.
One exception is the egg banjo - fried egg with soft yolk in bread roll from which the yolk drips down your chin, considered to be part of the delight
Re: Hairy bikers - route 66
I know of a few shops that sell hot roast meat sandwiches/rolls which are dipped in gravy. I admit to having a penchant for a turkey one!

And then of course there is the chips & gravy butty - a Northern speciality - & a favourite of The Lushly!
Re: Hairy bikers - route 66
Lusciouslush, yup, but I thought the gravy was sold separately so a DIY jobbie. Do they sell them as made up butties then?
Pampy, how are the meat 'n gravy ones made? Is the bap dipped first? I've seen some on US TV where one half is dipped then meat slices piled high and all finished on a hotplate, sometimes with gooey cheese that melts when a metal cloche covers it (to steam) on the hotplate.

Both halves of the bread are dipped in the gravy, just on the side that will enclose the meat, then the roast slices put between them. The outside of the bread is dry so it's not too messy to eat.

Epi 2
So far so good. Really liking it. I like going to places I will never make it too. Recipes were OK. Not a big fan of succotash. Never have been.
Was amused with the people who tried the fish. They seemed hesitant. More meat eaters I suspect.

Thought epi 4 was very good. A couple of places mentioned
https://www.cacaosantafe.com/ some reminded me of Willie Harcourt-cooze and his choc making.

Just catching up with this series. Really good and very interesting. Enjoying it immensely and not just the foodie bits. The recipes keep popping up in my Twitter feed too.
