Favourite breakfasts
Breakfast can be a bit routine (tea, toast, marmalade, cereal, boiled egg -- that sort of thing) so I'm looking for ideas for a new breakfast that doesn't demand too much cooking or prep.
Most of the time I have cereal, fruit, a kefir smoothie and a cup of tea. At the weekends we do eggs (scrambled, omelettes, boiled or poached) and maybe have some butter croissants with jam.
Other countries do things differently and I wondered if anyone had come across something delicious, healthy, easy and a perfect breakfast dish.
If anyone has a favourite breakfast, please share!

Re: Favourite breakfasts
Well it has to be a huge fryup AKA Traditional English Breakfast, but that's a very occasional treat as it has about 50000 calories.
I was going to have a slice of my bread pudding for breakfast, but realised I have some smoked mackerel which needs finishing, so it will be that in a tasted English muffin.

Re: Favourite breakfasts
Are you a furriner, perchance?
My dad, who was Polish, ate cheese or smoked/garlic sausage for breakfast. And lots of yogurt. Very unusual in 1950s Yorkshire.

Well, you probably wouldn't want mine! I've given up on my smoothies for the time being and am now having Oatiflakes, walnuts, sliced nectarine, chopped dried apricots, banana, milk and Yeo Valley fruit yogurts which contain kefir. I like the mango flavour.

Re: Favourite breakfasts
I only eat breakfast if someone else makes it !
I may have some fruit and always have a small black coffee. I hate cereals and anything involving milk. I make yogurt for others and usual breakfasts are berries or liced fruit in summer or dried fruit compote in the winter. M ahs porridge to poached egg on Marmite toast
When the family is here - as of tomorrow-they like HM pancakes or waffles and sometimes scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. When I can get undyed smoked haddock, that poached with a poached egg or kedgeree go down well. If someone else is doing it I love a kipper for a late breakfast or a bacon roll - but I like soft babas with bacon so that means I have to make them.
The local baker does a great line in croissants, pain au chocolat and pain au raisins - which no doubt will be requested.

Re: Favourite breakfasts
I like fishy breakfasts, kedgeree of course but also smoked fish of any kind either with scrambled eggs or just some form of bread and when I flat shared with a Swedish girl we ate Kalles Kaviar (cod’s roe in a tube) on buttered crisp bread. Don’t often get round to it.
Things on toast - avocado (good way of using half an avo left from yesterday) or banana, cheese on toast, poached egg on Marmite toast, even beans
Fruit of any kind
Granola with fruit and yogurt
Bacon butty
I quite like a Turkish breakfast, good bread white (feta style) cheese and/or yellow (Kashkaval, gruyere style), sliced cucumber and tomato, honey, yogurt
Today just a slice of toast with marmalade and an apple
And coffee, the main essential

Re: Favourite breakfasts
My favourite breakfast has to be Sakkarin´s. The full English. Again, not something I´d make every day, but fun at weekends!
Another favourite is a cheese and tomato omelette with YMCA potatoes. The omelette only takes a minute to cook, and the potatoes depend on having cooked some spuds the day before.
A typical Venezuelan breakfast would probably involve an arepa - a round "bread" made with corn meal, then stuffed with whatever is at hand: grated cheese, cheese and black beans, chicken & avocado, pulled beef or pork, or even fish ( typically, it´s shredded, spiced dogfish).
I often make pancakes - thick-ish ones ( more like scotch pancakes than Shrove Tuesday ones!), and add dried fruit. Then, when I´ve made a batch, I freeze them. Traditionally served with maple syrup, I prefer some soft cheese and homemade jam.
I haven´t eaten cereal since I was at university. Yuk.

Usually just a strong coffee, but at weekends I like a slice of sourdough toast splashed with good olive oil and topped with sliced perfect tomatoes, s&p of course.

Re: Favourite breakfasts
I should have added a favourite. One of those things you can eat as a dessert or for breakfast. Breton Far is a batter type pudding with prunes only I sometimes add dried figs, and apricots.

Re: Favourite breakfasts
If I’m having a cooked breakfast then I love a full English - no hash browns, no beans, but yes to grilled tomato halves, fried white bread, black or white pudding, fried slices of leftover new potatoes and definitely large mushrooms, grilled sausage, smoked English bacon (preferable back and streaky, and rind on is good) and a meaty pork sausage.
Another favourite, if I can get hold of one, is fried slices of puffball mushroom with creamy scrambled eggs.
Devilled lambs’ kidneys on toast
Jugged kipper. with whole meal bread and butter.
Poached eggs on whole meal toast
Creamy scrambled eggs with chives on whole meal toast
But regular everyday and relatively quick and easy breakfasts are
dippy egg and toasty soldiers,
grilled slices of tomato on whole meal toast sprinkled with a little mild curry powder,
Poached eggs on whole meal toast
and the one I eat most regularly is a compote of gently stewed seasonal fruit with a dollop of Greek yoghurt and muesli so good for me it’s virtually medicinal.
But sometimes ...... just sometimes .... nothing can compare to a bowl of Kellogg’s cornflakes and a jug of chilled Channel Island milk

Re: Favourite breakfasts
I used to love a Full English, it set me up for the day, but as I’ve grown older I find I can’t cope with one, it’s all too much. Which is tragic! However, we sometimes have it for supper, which almost makes up for it.
These days I like yoghurt and fruit; I love avocado on toast and, sometimes, porridge. But basically I stick to the yogurt because it’s so easy, it requires no effort and makes for minimal clearing up, which suits me in the morning.

Re: Favourite breakfasts
Normally, very Catalan and now also very Spanish.
Warm Weather:
A fresh baked bread, toasted with a smear of Evoo and Puréed Seasoned Tomato ..
Always a doublé Iced Espresso or Café Solo, similar but different than Espresso, and 2 fruits of the season.
Girona, produced Ecological Goat Milk Ricotta with Eco Honey and Fresh Berries
Sundays:
Brunch. Crepes Suzette. Sometimes meat-less Eggs Benedict served with smoked salmon or Green Asparagus.
Chilly Weather:
Spanish Hot Chocolate & home made fresh Churros (fritters) or when travelling to Marseille, a hot out of the oven Croissant with French Butter ..
Regards from Portugal ..

Re: Favourite breakfasts
Crikey, forgot porridge
I like mine with just a tiny bit of golden syrup, I don’t understand adding fruit and other “bits”, the points of porridge for me is that it isn’t bitty
I do like American pancakes, which is a good thing as it’s often the only way of avoiding cinnamon in a US breakfast
I do like viennoiserie, croissants etc, my favourite being pain au raisin. The Waitrose ones bought raw, frozen, and baked straight from frozen are pretty good

Re: Favourite breakfasts
My favourite breakfast is 2 fried eggs. That's it.
No salt, no pepper or bread. Just the eggs.
I've weaned myself off of toast. I rarely have it now.
But do eat porridge oats with greek yoghurt most days. I like it simple.

Re: Favourite breakfasts
Breakfast is my favourite meal. Especially for socialising.
Mine include; Eggs Benedict, scrambled egg and smoked salmon with lots of chives, a full English as a treat. But my favourite as Shakshuka with a chuck of sourdough

Re: Favourite breakfasts
Homemade muesli. Used to buy muesli base but now it’s bog standard porridge oats, plus dried fruit (chopped as necessary), nuts turned to dust and ground flaxseed. Don’t like milk so for a time had fruit juice then realised how much sugar they had. Now use water, convert it into porridge in the winter. Some fresh fruit according to season and occasionally shredded wheat. Once a week sprinkle on salted peanut dust to keep up my salt levels.

Re: Favourite breakfasts
I'm not much of a breakfast eater - more of a picker & grazer really - don't do toast too often - same ol' same ol' - I can eat eggs any time & am happy with a hard boiled egg or two, usually pre-cooked & out of the fridge - no bread etc. If the Lushly's around then it's proper soft boiled eggs with soldiers.
I sometimes just have a hunk of cheese - I do like my protein - can't remember the last time I eat porridge. It all changes of course if we are staying in an hotel, then I do like my full English, also for brunch-ish time a good Huevos Rancheros with Guac hits the spot...……..
If I eat too much at brekkie then I just feel like going back to bed - now tea - that's another matter altogether - really can't function unless I've had a full pot!!

Re: Favourite breakfasts
I love breakfast too. One of my regulars is a tin of sardines in tomato sauce grilled on wholemeal toast. It was a staple when I was doing Slimming World.
I can’t face avocados in the morning and loathe them with eggs.
I have made a couple of fry ups lately and have ended up giving at least half to the dogs. My appetite is not what it was. I don’t like beans or tinned tomatoes with a fry up either but am a devotee of fried bread as long as it’s done in lard.
Crumpets with lots of butter are another indulgent breakfast treat.
