All you lovely people who like climbing mountains, have you read 'Touching The Void' by Joe Simpson? One of the best, most inspirational books ever written, whether you climb peaks or not.

Binky, I have indeed. Mr S & I have a long-standing joke when we're out fell-walking, where if things seem to be going a bit pear shaped we say we're having a 'Brown Girl in the Ring' moment.. Seriously, it's a most incredible book (and story). Joe Simpson is one of my favourite mountain literature authors.

Gill, do you do the Kindle family thing? We can choose to download everything on the other person's kindle if we want. As DS1 has OH's old kindle, and it's still registered to him, he gets to share with us too.

Hi Keencook.
Yes, all of his books are on my library too - so I've just downloaded it onto the phablet. Ta.

Most of the time we read completely different books, but it's nice to be able to share the others :D

For the Coniston visitors, have you all been to Coronation Cavern? We’ve been visiting Coniston for many, many years, and had never heard of it.

Me neither. Mind you, when we're down that way we're usually up (if you see what I mean! :) )

We walked from Coniston, NE towards Hodge Close and Little Langdale. It’s close to Slater Bridge. Easy access, but a bit off the main track.

Edited to add link https://www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_260.html

Thanks for that link, Amber.
Looks like I won't be going over the border as soon as I'd hoped. Late November now is the plan around my sister's 60th.
With a family visit to Rhynie (Hillfort town in Aberdeenshire) & around.
One uncle is getting regretful - he's one of those chaps who was stopped from seeing family by his wife (including fall out with 2 daughters). And now she's died, wants to see everyone after all those lost years.

Has anyone seen "Julia and Me" about the lady who followed every recipe in Julia Child's book (Mastering the Art of French Cooking)?

We saw it on Netflix. It's worth it to see Meryl Streep in full flow. However, we usually consider ourselves lucky to do even 40% of a book, let alone the whole raft of recipes.

Does anyone here try every recipe in a particular book?

Yes Binky! Meryl Streep was wonderful wasn’t she?

Apparently Julia Child hated the book though. Doesn’t matter. Made for good entertainment.

I saw it some time ago so the memory is fading .

I don't think I've ever tried every recipe in a recipe book!

This is the real Julia Child making crepes suzette. I think listening to her talk for a whole 30 minutes programme would be trying.

It would be pretty hard going but she's good at what she does (did) - those crepes Suzette look lovely!

Love the film!!! And Stanley Tucci, of course!!! It is one of those food films that I can watch over and over again.

Yes, I think Meryl Streep caught some of the Julia Child mannerisms but softened the voice quite a lot, a good decision

I enjoyed the film

The last time I made crepes Suzette I spread the pancakes with the orange butter, sprinkled them with extra juice and a little sugar, heated them in the oven then flamed the dish as I brought it to the table - OH's birthday coincided with Shrove Tuesday so we had a dinner party for him

I have to show my ignorance here as I have made crepes suzette but never realised that you needed to flame them. We were happy with the buttery, orange and Grand Marnier sauce without flames.
