mark111757, you might, or might not, be interested to hear that Cadbury's chocolate (now owned by Mondelez Int'l although Cadbury is an English brand) announced this month that it is due to invest another £15million to increase production back here. News story:
https://metro.co.uk/2021/02/05/cadbury- ... -14026912/

Good news for the UK of course and apparently the Dairy Milk tablet is still popular enough to warrant this investment.
---

Good to hear from you. Hopefully out of isolation and Covid free now.

Jeral

Yes finally out of isolation party. Was a month. Boring as watch paint peel or cars rust. As of this moment back in old room.hopefully next Monday hair cutter will be in for some badly needed barber action. Dentist, eye doctor and pediatrist are next I hope.

The JO series ran when the book came out. Several of us got it and tried recipes, especially ltc.

Great news you're out of solitary confinement Mark!

I wonder why I thought that Hershey took over Cadbury chocolate in the USA :?.

So, mark111757, you've been let out for good behaviour, eh? That's great news :) I hope you're ♪ fee-ell-ing good, der da, der da, der da, and You're fee-ell-ing good.... ♪ and also that it hasn't set you back too far - a makeover should lift your spirits. We would all benefit from one here too TBH; there'd be some amazing before and after photos

Earthmaiden re Cadbury, Mondelez did try to take over Hershey but their bid was rejected. Kraft bought Cadbury, making Kraft a dirty word as I recall as it was commonly thought that CDM "isn't what it was". Whether Kraft changed the actual recipe, I don't know.

I have had Cadburys chocolate buttons of late and they still taste Cadburyish. Friends in the USA used to ask for Cadburys to be brought over as the UK stuff (pre takeover) tasted better that what was made and marketed as the same thing there . There was a marked difference in the taste. I have a feeling that Kraft tried to change the British recipe to the American one but the Brits protested and they changed back. Not 100% sure though. It does have a pretty distinctive (and IMO nice) taste.

I was surprised to discover the Crème Egg was only 50 - I'd have sworn it was around all through my childhood

In India they sold all kinds of small Cadbury's bars I'd never heard of, I was quite taken by the Perk bar which is a chocolate wafer thing covered in chocolate (it looks as if the name is used for other bars in other places)

That Perk bar reminds me of Time Out, which used to be pretty good and very chocolately-cocoa-y when it came out as double fingers in the 90s. I gather it was scrapped after turning them into a flop of a skimpy one-finger bar when cocoa beans were in short supply.

They've been getting dearer apparently as world demand grows so it's no surprise that health bars (minus chocolate) have been heavily promoted to keep the pick-up bars high-profit market in full flow.

it has 'early bird tickets' for free attendance at the webinar.

it's definitely more than that.
when i was five and after falling over in the street, my mother and i were invited in to her house by a woman who washed, and put plasters on, my knees - after having presented me with a cadburys chocolate cream egg. it certainly stopped me crying.

from wikipedia
While filled eggs were first manufactured by the Cadbury Brothers in 1923, the Creme Egg in its current form was introduced in 1963.[1] Initially sold as Fry's Creme Eggs (incorporating the Fry's brand), they were renamed "Cadbury's Creme Eggs" in 1971.[6]

mark111757, thanks for the link re Kwoklyn. It might be available via Amazon to me so have made a note.

On chocolate eggs, Fry's were the first to shape choc into an Easter eggs a very long, long time ago, so it wouldn't surprise me that they did a filled version earlier than the Cadbury one.

scullion, what a kind Samaritan, and happily they do still exist despite attempts to label everyone as selfish, grabbing, etc etc.
