This has just appeared on Twitter. It is fascinating.

That will make me look at some people differently! (joke!)

I don't suppose many advocates have delved so deeply into the roots of these trends.

It's a nonsense though, because you could find equivalent movements throughout the world in many other societies of totally different political persuasions. Equally, most German manufacturers were involved in the war effort and therefore supported the government of the day. It doesn't follow that owning a Bosch appliance or a VW car makes you a Nazi.

will his next article be about the 'eat local', no/low import of food views of communist china?
does the donald worry where his burger contents come from?

i'm not sure i'd put any value on that as being a well researched bit of writing.

Did none of you make it to the last paragraph? I thought Anthony Warner was quite careful to distinguish between the major politically based movements and a more individual hankering for a lost (and imaginary) Arcadia. What the article lacks is any discussion of where the eco movement fits in, but that might be hard to squeeze in to a short article written in 48 hours, but perhaps that’s in the new book for which this seems to be something of a trailer

Some of the article echoes what George Orwell wrote in the 30s, though he wasn’t in fact very consistent about it

It appears to be an example of ‘down the rabbit-hole’ style research ... which is what so many folk think is real research, without filters or analysis ... and their rabbit hole journeys are what algorithms use to feed them ... leading to some of the very skewed beliefs and affiliations in extremist groups.

As SSue says, hopefully there is something more in depth to follow ...

yes i did, and went on to read some of the stuff and his bio on his website. i got bored after a while. just because you're angry doesn't mean you are right - i'm sure the original subject of his article is angry and thinks he's right.

Science, echoing the famous quote about statistics, is often used in the same way as a drunk uses a lamppost. For support rather than illumination.

Interesting read I must say.

Oddly enough, I'd commented to Mr S the other day that Jacob Chansley really didn't strike me as the organic tucker type. I'd assumed it was a stunt. Ghastly young man.....

Apparently, possession of tattoos makes you seemingly unlikely to follow food fads.

Every day a school day.

Id have said that nowadays its the other way around ... what about Hipsters?

(Not that I think eating organic is always a ‘fad’ ... but sometimes it is)

Indeed. Its just that the combination of Jacob NeoNazi Buffalohorns and organic food seemed so unlikely somehow.

But if you’re into tattoos and follow that rabbit hole you could find yourself on a hipster trail ... and thence to organic food ... or if you’re into organic food you could go down the hipster rabbit hole and find tattoos, and thence to far right neo-nazi propaganda ...

Using that model of ‘research’ we could posit that hipsters are avid Trump supporters ...

That’s what algorithms do ...

Hipsters like craft beer.

Many craft beers are American IPAs. Some are flavoured with well-known American stuff like marshmallows and citrus fruit. Clearly a connection with Trump.

Even worse, there is now tiramisu flavoured stout. Italian inspired. Mussolini was Italian.

Proof, I say.

Can't abide citrus flavoured beers. Apart from Hoegaarden, which doesn't count.

Can't abide citrus flavoured beers.

Me neither. I had some in Cincinnati, flavoured with melon, with grapefruit, with coriander seeds...When they asked me if I liked it, I said I preferred real beer to fruit juice.
As for the article, I thought it was boring- I think our angry chef needs to find something to do.
Perhaps in his next article he could link Maoism to Veganism, or Momentum to quinoa or something.

A propos "hipsters" one of OH's friends who lives Finsbury Park way said that Jeremy Corbyn's son Tommy is apparently opening a shop that sells CBD Beard Oil, among other things, with his GF with a double-barrelled name: "National Hemp Service: Jeremy Corbyn’s son to open UK’s first ‘all hemp’ shop in Stroud Green Road"

Anthony Warner is I believe giving up being Angry Chef and moving on

He is respected by many scientists, particularly for his evidence based take downs of the diet and “wellness” liars; apparently he was invited to a food product development conference at which Deliciously Ella spoke, and he was so incensed he became Angry Chef in response
