Beverages
Re: Beverages
We're thinking about giving an English sparkling wine a try for Christmas day.
Would you recommend any of the Waitrose ones?
https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/shop/sear ... ing%20wine
We have a Little Waitrose locally, and I can always find out what they've got there.
The other idea I had is that Sam's Riverside, which is 5 mins away along the river, sells Gusborne (£36.00): https://samsriverside.menu/samsriversidepickup/
Do any of you know the Gusborne?
Thx!

Re: Beverages
Haven’t had it for a while but the Chapel Down was the sparkler of choice at a wedding we went to about 5 years ago. It was delicious.

Re: Beverages
Currently enjoying a big mug of this
https://thecoffeehopper.com/products/co ... rown-java/
I used to go to Atkinson's often but I haven't been up that way for a couple of years.
Old Brown Java has been a favourite for decades.
I indulged in some of this too.
Haven't tried it yet

Re: Beverages
That sounds lovely WW
As I can’t taste things properly I’m currently very happy that the deli are selling 1 kg packs of Italian coffee beans intended for coffee shops cheaply; as long as it’s a dark espresso blend it’s good enough

Re: Beverages
Back in October I had a couple of pink grapefruits and I peeled them with a potato peeler for the zest and left them in some Alcohol pour le fruits and some sugar.
After a stint cutting down dead growth in the garden this morning I have treated myself to a shot glass of the imbibing liquor. My, it is delicious !

Cheers, Zosh!
That sounds like a delicious "liqueur" for a Sunday.

I sometimes wonder how they manage to sell so much grapefruit. The younger generation don't seem to care for it much (in my experience) and the older generation all seem to be on medication which bans it.

My thoughts exactly PP! Clearly more out there who don't fit either category than we thought!

Re: Beverages
I have wondered about the grapefruit too
I suppose some people juice them, and some people put them in salads
Grapefruit juice is great in cocktails of course, like the sea breeze

Re: Beverages
Just wondering...
You could make a version of Tequila Sunrise, using grapefruit juice. I´d imagine you´d have to add some sugar to the juice, however.

In my friends bar , my favourite drink is rhubarb and ginger gin with lemonade and last time , they served it as always in one of those lovely big balloon glasses, but added a slice of grapefruit this time . It was delicious and probably the only time I’ve liked grapefruit

I like my gin very cold, and my tonic very cold, but I hate those big balloon glasses full of ice, I definitely do not want my gin watered down!
So saying, I found some pink elephants when I defrosted my freezer before Christmas. I think (hope) I’ve thrown them out now, but does anybody still use them?
Re: Beverages
I use a similar thing, but shaped, and coloured, like fruit. Saves the drink being watered down.

Somewhere we've got some shaped like the classic silhouette of Mickey Mouse's head. They might even have been a Disney product, don't know. I've always referred to them as mice cubes.

Re: Beverages
I can recommend this M&S presse as a mixer for cocktails...
https://www.ocado.com/products/m-s-mexi ... -514966011
We’ve been having equal parts presse and prosecco in a coupe glass with a dash of either gin or vodka (I do mean a dash, I don’t like it strong).
Really refreshing.

First time in my life I´ve ever seen "presse"!
What is it, exactly? Something like a cordial?

Re: Beverages
I think it's just a posh name for squeezed juice added to sparking water and makes it sound as though the fruit was squeezed especially for your drink. It's the name used on most upmarket drinks of that kind, usually elderflower etc. Firms that sell elderflower products do pressés and cordials, the former tend to be sparkling.
When we started doing French at school, our textbook was a real relic from the 1930s and every chapter had someone going to a cafe and ordering a Citron Pressé. We were led to believe that this was what everyone drank. When I finally went to France decades later we could only find one place that sold it, I tried it - just the once .
