Is It Just Me, Or is This A Bit Pointless?

I'm supposed to drink Buck's Fizz with my Xmas dinner!

I don't even drink fizzy pop, let alone booze!

I shall be having J2O - probably apple & raspberry - yum!

Hmmm, Mulled wine for me according to that, just about the only drink I won't be having. Looking at the rest, yes it looks like I will be drinking my way pretty much through the Almanac.
Breakfast will be Smoked Salmon scrambled Egg & Bucks fizz.
Merry Christmas hope you have a good one.

It’s just a fluff piece like all those FB quiz’s that predict things based on your month of birth ... do you not like fizzy drinks then just still ? I find J2O very sweet for me

Anything based on astrology is, let’s face it, fairly pointless :D

But what you drink does add enjoyment to what you eat, whether it’s alcoholic or not

I’m not drinking red wine at the moment, so I’ll have some Prosecco Conegliano and some Chablis over the holiday

For more serious suggestions, here are some from Fiona Beckett, all under a tenner

Don't think I'd want the recommended Tia Maria with my Christmas dinner but I'm happy to have a glass at a more suitable time.

Of course it's pointless, it's just a bit of fun made up by someone in an office, possibly to promote sales of the featured drinks.

Not pointless but actually very pointed IMO. Daily Rail 'Femail' section. Stereotypical sweet n fizzy cocktails for sweet n fizzy people of the female persuasion. Yer 'ladies' ' drinks. The 'astrology' is just a hackneyed vehicle for presenting 12 varieties of said drinks. :!: :!: :!:
Make mine a flinty dry Chablis with a razor edge. :D

Don’t fancy Tia Maria with my roast duck ‘a l’orange’ ... I shall be having either a glass of Picpoul or a pint of Adnams Ghostship ... I’m not a girly drink sort of a girl.

why did i click on that link? please, someone tell me?

i can't remember the last time either my partner or i had a glass of sherry - it was probably at a funeral.
i think the last time i had a bottle of it in the house was when a patient had given it to me for christmas (i think in 1981). one of my colleagues had told me about it and had recommended that when asked what my preference in sherry was, to tell her it was sweet, as he had been given the driest, most undrinkable sherry going. it had no effect - she must have had a cellar full of the stuff that she was slowly giving away to the unwary.
it may have been poured down the plug hole.

now a decent port would be another matter...
or the mulled wine - but not with dinner - probably none of them with dinner.

Sherry is making a bit of a comeback, possibly due to the pre-lockdown proliferation of tapas bars and just because of the wheel of fashion. Not Harvey’s Bristol Cream though

Never went away in this house, I’ve loved Sherry since I was so young I got it by taking sips out of my mother’s glass, last night I had a glass of Hidalgo La Gitana Manzanilla. Bone dry but not acidic, slightly nutty, delicious. I generally like dry sherries such as Manzanilla, Dry Oloroso and many Finos, though not Tio Pepe which I find rather nasty. Waitrose is usually a good place to start, they have La Gitana and the Barbadillo Manzanilla on offer

Autocarrot thinks Sherry is a girl’s name and should be capitalised

Totally agree with you SSue, re sherry ............ and not just the dry ones, the rich sweet ones such as Moscatel are wonderful with a blue cheese ....... but not the one out of Great Aunty Olive's sideboard! :!:

The trouble with learning which sherries one likes and on which occasions are the numerous bottles of vile stuff one has to buy to find out. which sit in the cupboard .. until one becomes a great aunt .

i'm not saying i don't like sherry, it has its place but it has been put at the back of the shelf (metaphorically) by more bad experiences than good, for me.

An eggcupful of Harvey's Bristol Cream in a bottle of "cooking" brandy will make the brandy taste much better. Enough to make it quite drinkable, rather than just for pouring over the pudding.

I have a bottle of Hidalgo Triana Pedro Ximenez, looks as as if you have pored a glass of maple syrup, lovely dessert wine, you can pour it over vanilla ice cream and one day I’ll make Dena’s prune and PX dessert (PX = Pedro Ximenez, the grape)

We have his and hers sherries in this house. I usually have Manzanilla, Mrs B has always got a bottle of PX on the go. :D

I have a glass of Fino at 6.00pm every evening. Love it. However, it has suddenly disappeared from the shops round here lately. Disaster.

I used to drink Tio Pepe all the time when I got it duty free, after that I tried supermarket brands. Here in UK I like both Tesco and Sainsburys. Somehow manzanilla doesn’t feature much, but I buy it when I can.
