The reviews I read said it lends itself more to a cocktail Gin rather than a straight G&T, what do you think?

Re: Beverages
I really like Tanqueray 10, but it's quite expensive, not as bad as it was but still
I like it in a G&T but agree, perhaps more of a cocktail gin, certainly smooth and perhaps a bit more citrus
£26 per 70cl bottle is £37 per litre, that's a big step up

Re: Beverages
I don't often mix a cocktail.
Apart from J's favourite Tom Collins, it's usually a g&t.

Re: Beverages
I only drink it in a g & t. I don’t have cocktails at home very often, in fact I’m trying to think if I ever have? DS is the cocktail maker and he likes whiskey, he is always making an old fashioned.

Re: Beverages
Only time I ever have a cocktail is when I'm dining out and the restaurant has something on special. Too tempting otherwise.
I noticed when I was mentally decluttering that we have three cocktail shakers. No idea why and I don't think they've ever been used, even by the children.

Re: Beverages
My BiL has passed on this German recipe for Apple Punch. The recommendation in the recipe is that it goes well with a dark rum. BiL has tried this and agrees!
In German:
And a rough translation...
Ingredients
• 1 L apple juice, naturally cloudy
• 300 g brown cane sugar
• 3 cinnamon sticks
• 5 cloves
Preparation
Bring the apple juice with the spices to the boil and let it steep for about 1 hour. Then sieve out the spices and add the sugar. Then let it simmer for about 15 minutes. Pour the syrup into sterilised, hot rinsed bottles and close tightly. It can be kept for approx. 4 months if unopened. Once opened, it should be kept in the refrigerator.
Pour the apple punch syrup (about 1 to 6) in your cup with hot water. Dark rum is ideal for those who would like to add a dash of alcohol to the punch.
It's that quick and easy to have a delicious and homemade apple punch for cozy Advent evenings at home.
Tip: The apple punch syrup is also an ideal gift if you want to make someone happy during Advent.

Re: Beverages
I used to love G&T, until one day, almost 40 years ago, we went to a restaurant called "Il Padrino", here in Caracas. I asked for a Martini. After about 3 sips, I started feeling really woozy. Couldn´t finish the drink - I was absolutely blasted - and we had to go home. The gin was spiked.
I´ve never touched a gin since - although these days, with all the wonderful options around, it might be a moment to try it again.

Re: Beverages
Well, standard Tanqueray is on Morrison's website at £22 per litre for ordering but my local store had no Tanqueray at any price, and there's none shown on the in-store advertising material
So I got a litre of Famous Grouse for £15.99

Always used to be my go to whisky, another that gets overlooked ia Label 5, Morrisons sell it & is really smooth

Re: Beverages
We've usually got one bottle of 'mixing whisky' amongst the malts. I inherited the whisky mac genes from my Dad. I don't drink many cocktails, (never think of whisky mac as a cocktail, but 'spose it is) although always up for trying something different at a posh restaurant. Otherwise I love a margarita in warm weather.
Re: Beverages
Had a glass of one of my favourite wines tonight with dinner, Spag Bol, although I use Pappardelle rather than Spaghetti.
The wine is a french red Gerard Bertrand Merlot, full bodied @ 14% just right for the meal.
Usually £8.50 but on special in Morrisons @ £6.50 so more on order, I you kike your Merlot you will love this.

Re: Beverages
If anyone remembers the discussion about hot chocolate (pages 6&7 ) I can confirm, IMHO, the Green & Blacks is indeed a decent step up from Cadburys, unless of course you prefer sweet hot chocolate.
G&B is not very sweet (to my tastes anyway) and quite chocolaty. It's not up to some of the ones I've had in Austrian ski resorts in winter but, for a reasonably priced, easy to make powder with milk, it will now be my regular go to.
I shall at some time try making it with the milk steaming wand on my espresso machine, I'm pretty confident this will up it's game somewhat!

Re: Beverages
I was just thinking about this the other day and wondering if you'd come to any conclusions. Might have to try some!

I'm rather taken with Lidl's Hot chocolate with chilli. Working my way through a tub at present.

Pooh, I don’t drink much hot chocolate - but I drink no milky coffee, I might get some use out of the milk
