I think the other chap should have gone.

The one who left had the better skills test, surely that's more difficult than cooking something you have been able to practice?

I don't usually watch this - can't stand the 'bullying' style attitude of the judges :( However, I will be keeping my eye on this series as a local lad is going to be on there somewhere. He has posted on a local facebook group, but of course can't tell us how he got on. He works as a private chef in Chelsea. We have 'spoken' via the FB - as you do when you recognise a kindred spirit. ;)

I think it's probably with a view to TV cock-ups - the one who was kept is possibly more likely to do something awful than the one who left, who is solid and competent and would probably never produce a disaster.

The road to MasterChef tragedy is paved with chocolate fondant disasters, but one of the chefs knocked up a perfect one in about 3 minutes.
Impressive.

All 3 of them are impressive, although is it David? he really stands out.
When his food is refined, he'll be amazing I hope.
This is my favourite Masterchef. They are phenomenal cooks (OK a few average ones do get through).

I don't remember seeing snails cooked on MC before.

I think David is great.

I see the one I thought should have gone, was eliminated in the next round.

We agree about David, would be very surprised if he isn't a finalist. I think the fact that he's run his own place without assistants for all those years really means he can do just about anything. Would be very tempted to go to Didcot and see / try for ourselves once we're allowed to again!!

I did Marcus's skills test the other evening as I had mackerel fillets.
Coated with spiced butter and fried in a very hot griddle pan and not pressed down per his instructions.
Didn't stick and it was delicious.

I thought the same ... I do wonder tho' if his very driven personality means that he would find it difficult working as part of a team, should his career progress to something bigger ... however his food looks really really tasty.

Maybe he doesn't want to progress?
Could be perfectly happy where he is.

Didn't he say at the beginning that he'd like a bigger place?
He'd obviously have to get staff then.
I imagine that if he gets as far as the final there will be financial backers who would enable him to expand? At least, that's what OH and I thought when we were talking about it.

I can't see him going to work "for" even a big-name chef, after 24 years running his own restaurant, although, correct me if I'm wrong, he could be an "Executive" Chef? So his name would be used but his menus etc would be executed by a regular team. At least, that's what I've always thought an exec chef did

I would hope that David would be in the position to employ a sous chef which would relieve some of the stress.
Interesting that they only eliminated one contestant, does that mean in a future episode they will send three people home?

Yes, I think they'll "catch up" or "catch down" by an extra person when they get to the next round after all the elimination heats.
I vaguely remember them doing it a few times in the past, and I think it was probably the right decision as Victor and Philli (? I think or am I muddled already) were very even.

Don't particularly fancy the bone marrow crème brulé... But
I'd like to go to the place where Jono works.

Santosh did a great seafood dish, to say he didn't see the sea until he was 15.

The lad who cooks in Essex put up some great looking dishes.

I liked Ross (?) But he was outclassed.

Struggling with names, I have had a couple of glasses of wine.

Does anyone know why there were only three contestants on Tuesday? The usual introduction made it look as if the fourth person was cut out of the shot.

No idea.

Do you remember Ben left MasterChef Aus without explanation.
Maybe something similar happened.

Maybe self isolation? And they did take an extra through last week. I notice that the whole show is keeping to social distancing and not sharing plates at tasting.

If it was covid related I don't see why it couldn't be mentioned.
Unless the contestant requested it of course.

I sort of half watch it, find some of the dishes they are asked to cook a little strange, Last night, Kidneys on toast, really? I don't look on that a pushing a good chefs skills & some even struggled with it & as for Scallops, the one treaded them like it was the first time he had ever seen one.
There are some very good ones but to me most have just been average. Or am I being too harsh?
