Where to eat near the British Museum?
Any recommendations for bistro style food, lunch or early evening?
Ideally between Euston station and the British Museum.

We had a lovely brunch at Honey & Co last time we were in London. The evening menu looks nice too https://honeyandco.co.uk/ Not sure if it is quite what you’re looking for though.

Not bistro I'm afraid , but back in the day when I used to commute via Euston every day I loved the Indian sweetshops and cafes round the back in Drummond street and Euston Street. Ambala used to make the best samosas, punjabi style ones with flakier pastry rather than the usual more filo-like ones. A couple of very good veggie places, Ravi Shankar's is famous. He was Nora Jones's dad...

Re: Where to eat near the British Museum?
Depends on what’s open of course at the moment, I walked through the Bloomsbury Centre at lunch time 2 weeks ago, and half the places were shut
The Tas Turkish restaurant is almost the nearest to the BM and it’s pretty good
https://www.tasrestaurants.co.uk/tas-bloomsbury
Always the fall back position
There are a few places on Coptic Street almost opposite the main gate, I like the Menya Ramen House, but it’s basic Japanese noodles, which possibly isn’t what you want
Not on the way to Euston, but only a small pedestrian detour, and on bus & tube routes, for bistro food hard to beat Pierre Victoire at 5 Dean Street, I was there in September and would recommend - also they don’t close in the afternoon, so you have flexibility on timing Rubbish website

There are loads of places around Honey & Co in Fitzrovia but I don’t go there much, though I like the Chettinad (curry) on Great Percy Street

I went to those a few times back in the '80s, Sakkarin.
I've not eaten out in central London since last year, now Will everything be the same?
If you could do a slight but not immense diversion, I would recommend La Fromagerie on Lamb's Conduit st. Not sure if it's open though.

I don't think it is, alas. But for future visits, it's very very good.

I think all 3 Fromageries are operating as shops not as places to eat
Lamb’s Conduit Street & Judd Street have been very quiet the last couple of times I’ve walked up them, a lot of places are closed

I agree re Ambala but the last time I went that way (late Dec admittedly) the whole are seemed to have been flattened.
Re: Where to eat near the British Museum?
I'm wondering if there's a restaurant association or some such which can advise and is updated on what is open and where?
As we know, lockdown things can change overnight and we are talking Central London (already in Tier 2), yet if one has to book a reservation and then cancel it's still not clear to me if money is refundable. As far as I know it ought to be if the restaurant itself had to close, hence your non-attendance, but getting one's money back in practice might not be so straightforward.
That said, no date for the visit was mentioned, so not sure if "now" or imminent, or when "new normal" arrives.
PS: Is Time Out magazine still around or online?

The easiest way of finding out what’s actually operating is probably to look on OpenTable - as the pages you see are linked to the booking database they have to be up to date. Not all places are on it of course, Menya Ramen isn’t for example

Drummond Street is still really great for all that. And there are loads of other places to eat on the street too. Or were. Haven't been in London since the Pandemic started.
The BM restaurant is not bad but just looked and says closed until further notice.

You didn't say whether actually visiting the museum or just in the area WW.
Not a good time to travel anywhere unless at the moment unless a necessity but.
This might be useful for restaurants in the Bloomsbury Holborn area but maybe out of your chosen area.

This would be worth a diversion IMO - Holborn tube - + interesting area to wander around

You'd have to change to the Piccadilly Line if coming into Euston (Vic line to Kings X then Piccadilly to Holborn) or vice versa but short walk to BM too.

Or Fitzrovia

Take a look at The Gilbert Scott at St Pancras. It’s lovely there.

The Marylebone one's cafe/restaurant is open, I believe.

Yes, it’s by far the biggest so I guess they might be able to manage - the original Highbury shop is so small you tread on people’s toes normally

Actually I just had an email suggesting that they are open for dining.
Oh for one of their mini souffles in a puddle of parmesan cream sauce...

I went with my ex, last seen in 1982
I have been since, but not in this century
There used to be a good Italian, cheap & cheerful, which Riocaz recommended on New Oxford Street just before you got to Holborn but I can't find any trace of it now, though it's only a couple of years since we last went
