I’ve had Chinatown Kitchen since it came out in 2015 but mine has a different cover, blue, that’s the newer edition

I was amused that one of her signature dishes is “Chinese Spag Bol” as I remember a Beeb board discussion about why one would slow cook mince for things like pasta sauce, she was not initially convinced

This poped up on my fav download sight. At least they went with bake off and not the vomit inducing baking show that PBS does here in the states.

I 'm pretty sure I spotted it on one of the channels here, I may even have set it to record. Not seen one yet though, not particularly fond of Torode's presentation, although I watch his whole Korean series. As I recall, it trod exactly the same paths already trodden by Gizzi Erskine and Judy Joo whose programmes I'd already binge-watched.

i found this and thought of earthmaiden and her granddaughter.
that is one of a vast amount of quick, no speaking, very inventive and well filmed food videos.
they are responsible for the interesting bread videos that i mentioned on the 'guardian link' thread.
i can't make up my mind as to whether the site is american or german. when i decide it's american there are hints that it could be german (which ties in with the media address - not that that means anything if it's a holding address in europe). they are part of a group who also have this site of making projects - which could also be useful for activity ideas (and a few weird things!).

What lovely sites Scully! Lots of inspiration, thank you. (I was drawn to the large Kinder bar!).

I've got my grandmother's old cream horn moulds which will be great for the Christmas ideas.

I haven't seen horns for years. A weekly treat for us at grandma's was cornets with that set mouse in and sprinkles ("hundreds and thousands") :)

I watched one of Torode's travelogues which was good, although the "now the chef presenter cooks" segments weren't that inspiring if you're not keen on a mountain of stupidly hot fresh chopped chillies. I imagine hot chillies wouldn't figure in M.East cuisine, but bet he'll wangle some in ;)

Dirty secrets of Britain's takeaways

Having worked in food service a lot of years, I found this to be of interest. I like to think we did something right when I worked at the pizza shop tho that was 1987 to 1990 and the burger place was 1979 to 1981, there was only one state dept of health inspection.I was very proud of that. If we'd had dome of what I saw on the TV, we would have been shut down in a minute.

This might be available thru the channel 4 web site and thru the down load circuit.

It paints a sad and poor and true picture of the behind scene stuff of food production here in the states. You might get the idea some people will do anything for a dollar.

Check the channel 4 web site or on the download circuit.

i find Jack Stein a bit ordinary, I do catch myself wondering, nice as he is, if he'd be all over the tv if he weren't Stein Junior
Having said which I do like the way he explains little bits of quite technical prep very simply, rather than saying "get the fishmonger/butcher to do it"

mary berry is Dame Mary, 'nuff said

Watched that Dispatches, I HAD recorded it, it's sort of what I expected, basically the US will run roughshod over all our food regulations, and in the process probably bankrupt most of our farmers. There were a lot of scary statistics, along the lines of "there are 4 times as many cases of food poisoning in the US". It was very hard work though, they kept going over the same points it seemed. I think I may even have fallen asleep at one stage...

Finally got some foodie programmes over here. This week I´ve been able to see MasterChef Spain, a new version of Hell´s Kitchen and the first episode of Master Chef USA.
Joe Bastianich made the comment of the century when presented with an awful dish of scallops, mushy peas and fingerling potatoes.
" That´s the worst presentation I´ve ever seen. It looks like a fungal infection"
