Seasonal Greetings

Postby Earthmaiden » Wed Sep 30, 2020 9:54 pm

This just popped up on my newsfeed (some algorithm thought I was a DM reader ). I noticed in Sainsburys today that they were starting to take orders for the festive season too. I'm not sure this will be the right kind of food for small lockdown gatherings!

When I went to the garden centre on Monday I did the full tour - I didn't stay long in the Edinburgh Woollen Mills concession, but they were just purring the finishing touches to the Christmas decoration shop

Obviously, you need tree baubles to celebrate Michaelmas

Related question - why do garden centres tend to play a lot of country rock? Ricky Nelson is de rigeur, perhaps the garden gnomes like him and the Everly brothers, at least they hadn't got any Christmas tunes yet

I was really commenting on the food! Must look out for the launch today - coming up with all those new ideas keeps some people very busy!

I suppose in a normal year (remember them?) a lot of people do start stocking up for Christmas as soon as they are paid again after the summer holidays, and after paying for new school kit where relevant

The garden centre did have some lovely tins of biscuits, and the fancy extras like chutney and jam and gift packs of things in jars

Lidl - and most other supermarkets - sell hot cross buns all year round.

The children’s Halloween costumes are hanging in Morrison’s, alongside the special foods. They look rather sad, will anyone buy them without parties or trick and treat? I suppose there might be some jollys within school bubbles

You have to start planning for Christmas. The next one to celebrate is 15 months away.

You need to get the Brussel Sprouts on before the end of the year. After that, Brussels will be banned! ;)

At least we can still get something called "Turkey".

There are quite a few events planned here where people will decorate their houses or windows and families will walk round looking at them over several evenings in a socially distant manner. I expect the children will dress up for that, assuming we are not all on lockdown by then! The window decorating we did earlier in the year was similar and it wasn't too crowded round each part of the route even though we weren't isolating then.

Ha ha aero!

They think a Christmas Colin the Caterpillar cake will serve 10 - optimistic surely? :D

I’d be more enthusiastic about M&S Christmas food if they got rid of at least 70% of the plastic, but as someone who is not a fan of sausage rolls I do actually enjoy theirs

Aarrggghhh - Xmas already and it´s only the 1st October
Well I suppose businesses have little else to be happy about so good luck to them.
Great thinking from the Suffolk Gazette!!

I´m slowly preparing myself for a very strange event; the prospect of Xmas alone, since my wife is trapped in the UK and can´t get back, and I can´t leave because there´s no-one to look after the house... and then I might not be able to get back, either

Chin Up Clive - it hasn't happened yet & hopefully won't - couple of months to go :crossed

I can't be doing with early Crimbo stuff..... ever......... but will admit to getting in the ingredients for the puds & cake which I'll do in the next week or so while the windows can still be kept open in the kitchen - who knew Covid would make me organised.............. :o  !!!!

At the moment.......apparently they’re all being bought up and frozen. To sell at a profit at a later date, no doubt  .
