Important Announcement
UPDATE: THE TEST ON THE OLD FOOD BOARD ARCHIVE WILL BE ON 4th JUNE.
UPDATE 2, 4th June: TEST UNDERWAY, NEW ANNOUNCEMENT IN MEMBERS' AREA
UPDATE 3, 9th June: FIRST TEST COMPLETE, NEW BOARD UNDER CONSTRUCTION, NEW ANNOUNCEMENT IN MEMBERS' AREA
UPDATE 4, 12th June: PREREGISTRATION UNDERWAY
UPDATE 5, 18th June: NEW BOARD OPENED FOR REGISTRATION
UPDATE 6, 27th June: THREE DAYS TO LAUNCH
UPDATE 7, 29th June: LAUNCH TOMORROW
Hi all, just to let you know that we've got a potential crisis looming, a rerun of similar problems we've survived in the past. In short, our webspace providers are doing another system upgrade, which might make our boards crash as Wildfood's did. The upgrade is happening on July 1st, so we've got to get it sorted before then.
The only way we have of testing in advance is to use our old forum archive as a testbed, which might make it crash anyway, so the first thing we're asking is that if anyone has anything they would like to save off there, they do it straight away, and we'll set a date of Sunday 29th May to do the actual test, in a fortnight's time. UPDATE: Now 4th June.
In the meantime we will be preparing a fully operational brand new and up-to-date board using the very latest version, one which we'll be able to upgrade ad infinitum in the future. However it will mean everyone will have to register again, as we cannot transfer the membership details across from these boards. Coincidentally it will look very similar to the way Wildfood used to, although we will be tweaking that.
We'll be doing a "send to all" email to advise lapsed members, so anyone with multiple registrations will get several emails.
There's a longer explanation in the Members' Area, please post technical queries there...

Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Got that, thanks, Moira
Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Thanks for keeping us going how will we find the new board to re register?
Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
.
Thanks for the heads up, Mods
The demo looks exactly like WF, even down to the colour scheme, which is a bit disconcerting. Or are there other colour, UI/interface options?
Using the old mb as a test run sounds like a plan. Good luck with that.
Bit like a the starship Enterprise going thru a singularity or adjustment warp in the spacetime continuum Hopefully will come out the other side in one piece

FAQs
Icelesley: Thanks for keeping us going how will we find the new board to re register?
When it's all sorted I will post a link on the Carta front page. Short and sweet for remembering! There is already an emergency board.

The underlying scheme for THIS board is like that too! The rogue plugin changed the look and feel from day one. I've done a lot of twiddling in the past with the "naked board", and will be tweaking the way it looks within my powers. There's a version somewhere where the colour was purple and I got rid of the 1970s rounded corners and gradients, but it still looked a bit Wildfoody. My coding skills are not what they used to be though!

Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Good luck with the upgrade!
The board that I admin has all the Tech2 stuff done by a colleague. We have done two major upgrades in the past year or so, and they both went through with no problem. We allowed for a day, but we only offline for about half an hour.
It took a lot longer to make the back-up!

Re: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
It's our service provider that's upgrading, not us. We can't upgrade this board, that's the problem. We will be starting from scratch with a new board. We have done two major upgrades in the past year or so
