Yeah I don’t mind non sausage scotch eggs as to me the essence of it is the same , an egg with a savoury coating then breadcrumbed and deep fried .
Vegan cheese/milk /yoghurts I don’t object to at all . Yes technically they aren’t but they’re intended as direct substitutes for the dairy version and you know what you’re going to get with them .
Whereas from the first thing i posted , if someone was serving me “spag Bol with a twist”, I wouldn’t be expecting that !!

A consensus is emerging that in N Europe tapas now just means small plates, not necessarily referring to Spanish cuisine
I have posted a picture of a local tapas place, Aun, which serves "Japanese Tapas" I've not been, though hope to go soon
From what I found under bayrische Tapas they look very like Bavarian-themed canapees to me.

Yes I have visions of Kayley's family coming home looking forward to a spaghetti dinner and being oh so disappointed, whereupon Kayley huffs off vowing never to cook anything "inspired" for that unappreciative bunch again - back to mince + tomato sauce + pasta for this house that'll teach them

This is the tapas menu in question, in Pankow, Berlin
It’s in German but there’s a nice picture gallery, a bit bigger than canapés but quite compact

I had a look at that menu and it looked tasty. I'm fairly good with German menus. , but two things were outside my knowledge, and also out side the knowledge of the online translator.
Breznknödel?

they do look a little more like a ración than a tapa.

This Lemon Dessert Lasagne just popped up on my Facebook feed:
https://www.taste.com.au/recipes/lemon- ... e/yx880sks
It might be delicious, but surely Lasagne is the wrong word to use in the name of the dish?

Re 'Scotch' Eggs ... my understanding is that Scotch Eggs are so called because another term for mincing meat was 'scotching' from the old French word "escocher" - to cut. Butterscotch is so called because of the 'scotching' or scoring of it before it's fully set so that it can be broken up when cold.
I found this which bears that out https://edinburghtourist.co.uk/question ... -scottish/
I suspect that 'scotching a rumour' has a similar derivation.

Our local Booths do the most spectaculaly good chicken and chorizio scotch eggs. I'm addicted to them.

I didn't know that, Suffs. What perfect sense it makes now!
Talking of which, something I find bitterly disappointing are the 'mini Scotch Eggs' found in beige buffet food supermarket aisles. I suppose it's obvious that they wouldn't run to quail's eggs but chopped hen's egg feels all wrong.

I suspect down to cost, but my daughter buys these for her snacks during the day when she is doing her 4 days of 12 hour shifts ...

That makes sense suffs, I knew scotch eggs were Scottish but that was about it. I assume hopscotch comes from the same source.
With on the mini eggs EM, always a disappointment.
That dessert looks as though it would be decent enough but nope, to, me it's not a lasagne!

Belugalinzen are Beluga aka caviar lentils, the ones that are even smaller and darker than Puy lentils, they do a bit like caviar when raw.
I wasn’t sure about the dumpling, but as I suspected it’s the one made from stale bread, Bretzen being a variant on Brötchen it seems

Wow LTC
If this were a contest, we would have our winner
I had to look up one of the ingredients, Philly cooking cream (Kraft Philadelphia Cooking Crème)
Don’t think I’ll bother when it makes it over the pond

Yes, I think they do. And they do buckets of mini-eggs at Service Stations too.

Some of the concoctions on their FB page beat this hands down.
No not a product I'll be rushing to buy, I assumed it was an Elmlea type product but the ingredients list is something else!

Re: Offences against food descriptions act
I must say, that if I didn't care about ingredients I'd be tempted to try it. I like to use 'Philly' style cheese as a sauce sometimes for things like cauliflower. It never really melts terribly well. Someone has cottoned on to that I think and made something just for that kind of scenario and I think it would be popular, thicker than creme fraiche etc but thinner than cream cheese. It's no worse than other sauces in jars - is it??
The chicken recipe is somewhat beyond its description .
I thought that the point of tapas was that it was for sharing. The little German plates don't look as though it is their intention.

No I don't suppose it is EM, I use cream cheese quite a bit too in recipes and I'm not adverse to using the odd can of condensed soup.
A lot of the dishes on the site do actually sound quite tasty, it's the naming of them that gets me!
