I do find Jamie very good for clever little tips and tricks like blending the gnocchi into the milk . I love gnocchi and haven’t made it for ages .
Made a good bolognaise using Nigel Slaters recipe . I find the milk makes a massive difference . Need to start cooking some new things again , food feels a little samey

I have been at work today, so has my pal.
Husbands haven't so they went to the pub.
Pah
But he made Mamta's veg sabzi, which was (predictably) delicious.

I had a notion for corned beef pie but couldn't be bothered making pastry and had no lard. Cue an experiment - corned beef hash (corned beef, mash, peas and spring onions) stuffed flat breads (Jamie Oliver recipe using equal weights of self raising flour and Greek yoghurt). Brushed with a little oil and baked for 25 mins in a medium oven. Served with roasted baby plum tomatoes and a dollop of spicy mayo. It was very good.

A couple of nights ago we had sausage and mash with onion gravy, a honey and mustard roasted combo of carrots, parsnips and celeriac, and some cabbage.
Last night was poached salmon on an edamame and chilli salad.
There is a quiche in the fridge which we’ll probably have tonight with an assortment of veg that needs using up.

Love the sound of everyone's food.
Last night we had a chicken, tarragon and smoked bacon pie with savoy cabbage and roasted carrots.
Out for breakfast (yippee) to a riverside cafe this morning where I had eggs with salmon.
Some crab pate on a small piece of toast for lunch.
Out for dinner (double yippee) for my Dad's birthday later. I've spotted a chilli prawn linguini on the menu and a salted caramel and candied pecan eton mess so that's me sorted.

I made a paneer and pea curry last night. Had it with some tandoori flat breads I bought the other week. (Long life!)

Friday night we had one of our old favourites. Cod with chorizo, red pepper and orzo.
Yesterday was a very special day for us. Our 45th wedding anniversary.
We started the day with scrambled egg and smoked salmon. As we had a day out planned I made some BLT rolls to take with us for lunch.
Dinner was seared scallops with a brown butter and caper sauce. Herb crusted rack of lamb with Madeira sauce, dauphinois potatoes, asparagus and carrots.
There was a sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel ice cream for dessert but we were too stuffed!
That will be eaten tonight after a seafood paella.

Belated Happy Anniversary WolfGirl! Your food sounds worth waiting 45 years for!
Re: What's everyone cooking this week? 2
Thanks EM. Your comment is very apt. We had booked into a rather fancy pants hotel for our wedding night but we couldn’t afford to eat there! We set off looking for somewhere cheaper to eat but could only find a KFC, so that was what we had.
Things have improved since.

What a delicious celebratory menu, WG, congratulations!
We had scallops too, but just frozen Asda ones. I am sure you had lovely fresh ones from the fishmonger!
We had polenta with basil instead of mashed potatoes, this Nigel Slater recipe: https://www.theguardian.com/food/2021/a ... stard-puff
I took a pic but can't shrink it to the acceptable size to post - never mind!
WG do you have any pics of your feast?

Here's wishing you many more happy years to come, WolfGirl and Mr WG Lovely platefuls - and sticky toffee pud yet to come.
I found a recipe for Chinese batter. like on takeaway prawn balls, so shall attempt that later with sweet & sour dipping sauce. I imagine they'll take forever at the speed I go at following recipes for the first time, so a quick beanburger & bun to keep me going meanwhile.

I have made... I don't know what to call it. Homegrown passata, onion, garlic, rosemary, thyme, chipotle flakes, homegrown kale, vegetatrian sausages, cannellini beans. I may or may not stir in mozzarella. It's probably sounding more appealing than it merits because I realize I have omitted to eat today

Fabulous, wolfgirl!! Sounds really delicious, happy anniversary
We had pancakes for breakfast with bacon and maple syrup.
We had the in laws here today for a gardening party in preparation for some work we are having done on it. We had homemade rhubarb and ginger cake with coffee mid morning. Dinner/lunch was rack of lemon with leeks, peas, mint, asparagus, new potatoes followed by eton mess.

I wonder what John and Gregg would make of that

I was working today so J was in charge of catering.
I got a (3-hour) early dart so I was home in time for a bacon sandwich and a ginger beer in the garden.
Tonight was lamb saag, dhal and rice with cheese and crackers a bit later.
Tired now.
2 x 0515 alarms.
No alarm tomorrow.

Chicken cacciatore on Saturday and again for dinner yesterday. Not much by way of cooking planned this week as my central heating system is being replaced and chaos rules! Breaded haddock or pizza from the freezer tonight I think.

.
Fuchsia Dunlop's Gong Bao chicken last night. First time using her version. Perfect recipe, no tweaks needed. Served on stir fried baby pak choy and plain steamed rice.
Never have had a bad recipe from Fuchsia D.
Night before, black bean burritos. Always a hit with the other diner
Night before that, seared sesame seed crusted thick ahi tuna steaks sizzled with thin lime slices after being marinated in evoo, lime zest, a crushed garlic clove, a bit of pimenton dulce. So simple, so good.

Not sure it would fill us up though BM
I might make gong bao chicken this week ZC. We have a slightly wrinkly looking aubergine which I might include too before it gets wasted.
Tonight we made Nigel Slaters pork and lemon polpettine which we had with spinach and pasta. I tweaked it a little as I added basil to the meatballs instead of thyme. I also changed the sauce slightly. Anyway, it was fabulous. Everyone loved it and the meatballs were really delicious. We will definitely make it again.
