Has something gone wrong? When I go and click on "Board Index" all I get is a link to "Who's Online". No other menu.

Along the top, aero, you should be able to choose what to read, unread, new, active topics - above the green Forum strip ...

Yes, I can see those, but they only show what has been posted recently. I think you should be able to see the forum structure listed.

I don't know how I managed it, but I watched an Australian video of a chap "getting the house spider" on the kitchen ceiling.
And it was the size of a baby's head. Aaaaaargh.

Not sure how big a baby's head is, but according to the Australian Museum

'Australia's biggest spiders belong to the same family as the Goliath Spider. They are the whistling spiders. The northern species Selenocosmia crassipes can grow to 6 cm in body length with a leg span of 16 cm.'

I also read 'on current evidence the most dangerous spiders in the world are funnel-web spiders (Atrax and Hadronyche species), Redback Spiders'

I remember putting my hand into a potted Maidenhair Fern in our lounge (long time ago) and finding an enormous Redback!! Just took the pot outside and killed it - didn't think of it as so poisonous. Generally considered to affect children badly but not adults - and we do have an anti-venom :D

I’ve seen a red back spider when I was in Sydney, casually sat on our light switch- I ran out and left it to OH (an Australian) to deal with it.

On our last trip I was looking out over the countryside at a viewing area and casually put my hand on the fence rail, my son picked my hand up and pointed out the two white tip spiders that I had managed to miss, one either side of my hand. Having seen my best friends white tip bite I felt very fortunate.

I love Australia but there is a lot of wildlife that has the potential to make life uncomfortable! Doesn’t stop me visiting though, can’t wait until we can travel again, we have a postponed wedding this year but it still looks unlikely we will be able to attend.

Won't it be lovely, BB!

Red spiders were said to live in the cracks between the window frame and the outside wall in our music room at school (a new building badly finished). It was the only class we all arrived at promptly so we could sit on the other side of the room. I can't believe there really were (or that any sign wasn't dealt with immediately!).

I'd say "not long now" but I'd be wrong.

Our next trip is September to Coniston Water. I haven't booked any accommodation yet but am being pestered by emails from a hotel I showed some remote interest in.
I can't book it
a)because we cannot go anywhere
& b) their booking system is closed
c) cos it's actually £250 per night without breakfast.

Well, we've booked a night in Birmingham to see Alfie Boe and Michael Ball. Nov 29th. Not exactly at the top of my wish list but OH is a fan. She says it will get us into the Christmas Spirit. I think we'll find getting into that Spirit will be dead easy this year. :gonzo

Ooops, shouldn't have mentioned winter party time, isn't against Forum Rules this early? Mods be kind. ;)

We've booked a couple of staycations, both can be rearranged if needs be.

In an ideal world we will be able to visit mainland Europe for a Christmas market this year, not counting on that yet though!

We will, as ever, follow the rules and our own additional risk assessment (this tends to be stricter than the actual rules!).

This came up a while back. IIRC the upshot was it has now been defined as a holiday in ones own country.

If I'm mis-remembering, what I meant to say was, we've booked a couple of holidays in England  .

I was looking into Interrail before The Event - quite expensive but pretty good way of going

Also Eurostar + TGV to Barcelona, once you get to Barcelona there’s the coast railway every 30 minutes

Shame it’s so hard to get to Ireland by train and ferry, I ended up going Ryanair last year as basically I couldn’t sensibly get there from here any other way, easy enough by car ferry but pricey for a single traveler even if I drove

If it’s the new Inn, it’s the only pub we felt Covid secure in last year.

Sadly not, on that recommendation of yours, Amber. I've just had a look at their site too.
We don't have that much choice at the moment, and I've booked the Black Bull Inn, for £115 per night. Everything else is so expensive.

Weather permitting, coupled with travel restrictions being lifted completely, we will be travelling on to other locations afterwards making a jolly holiday of it.
