I’m rather happy
I passed by a garden wall where unwanted books had been put out to take, and collected a mint condition copy of Tim Hayward’s Food DIY, which looks very easy to follow

Sounds good, Sue :)
Is that a common practice - to put books out like that? (Just have to hope it doesn't rain!!)
Or did you just happen to notice them when you were walking past?

It’s been an increasing practice for a while - but as people have been decluttering in lockdown and the charity shops have been closed it has become more common.
People do it with other bits and pieces, but mainly books

I am always leaving odds and ends on my front wall, - if it's anything metal (old sink taps for instance), it doesn't stay there long :thumbsup

From someone in the states "looking in", here is my take......

The only one that really winds me up is the king of stylee, Jamie oliver. Way too much politics for me. He was not like that in the naked chef and Olivers twist. There seem to be a lot of times when he comes over like big brother. Some of the newer recipes sound really good.

The ones I like include Delia (choc truffle torte and her pork chop recipe with crème fresh), Mary berry, hairy bikers (the ramen recipe in the Sunday times magazine sounds quite good)., hf-w (from the river cottage days), nigella (a fav of mine is the mustard pork chops in cream sauce. I used fresh gnocchi as well.), simon Hopkins on ( never get tired of that series,). I am sure there are others that I missed.

On line there is a bloke named josh elkin and I see him on face book. He posts cooking videos but a lot never had a link for a printable recipe. But lately that has changed. You can find those via key word search at recipechampions.com

I think the key word in the title of this thread is “writers”. I am under no illusions about who writes the books but I’d still have certain people at the top. Nigella engages with the reader. Actually so do the Hairies and the Two Fat Ladies.

Most don’t and some are just a vehicle for recipe writing.
