Hot cauli wings crop up now and then and I'd love them if I was a hot spice belly so I ponder for ages. One day. I rather fancy the crispy-made-sticky version (baked or deep fried).

Some coconut raita includes peas, so combo is not unknown. Peter Gordon's recipe for coconut uses dessicated coconut, whereas most use fresh being available in S. India where it's prominent:

I bought a chilled soup from Booths last week that was green pea, coconut and turmeric. I was a bit dubious about the combination but thought I'd give it a go - and was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was.

I´ve got this thing about decimated coconut.
As far as I´m concerned, it has less flavour than sawdust.
FAR better (although a little more work) to buy a coconut from the supermarket,. cut the coconut out and grate it. Yes, it means a little more effort - but the difference in flavour is a thousand-fold.

No, you can’t always get fresh coconuts here, and if you can get them they are expensive and often past their best

However, you can now get frozen grated fresh coconut in many supermarkets and virtually all Asian grocers, more reliable and saves a chore

It was grated, not desecrated coconut in the soup. I buy frozen grated coconut - it's handy to have in the freezer and MUCH easier than trying to 1) get into a fresh coconut; 2) get the flesh out; and 3) grate it.

i was given mine by a friend, unused, who had been given it by a friend - possibly in the same state - i, too, haven't used it yet.

Is it stating the obvious to say that if anyone fancies the coconut raita I linked to, but using frozen fresh coconut gratings, choosing one of the many different recipes designed for it would be better.

Pampy, I see there are recipes for the pea soup using either peas or yellow split peas (more like chickpeas). The green pea ones seem to be "English" flavourings apart from the turmeric (like the Tideford brand one), whilst this yellow pea one is decidedly spiced:

There are destructions online, ususually involving baking, draining water out, then tapping all round the equator smartly until a crack appears, then prize apart. Easy as pie, or is it... I failed (last year), and as the water tasted foul I decided to chuck it as it'd probably gone off anyway.

There was never anyone so pleased when coconut water became the latest super food as I always looked forward to the water from inside a whole coconut - I LOVE IT .. The brand leader came a very close second to the fresh thing imo

It was the VitaCoco one ... the first one I noticed on the shelves. Others might disagree that it tastes close to the fresh thing, but it does it for me.

I get regular emails from Australian Women’s Weekly Food - do you remember their recipe books years ago? - and it never ceases to amaze me how many things they find to put desiccated coconut into.

Just looked in my food cupboard & yes Desiccated Coconut is in there , best before Oct 2018, tried it, tastes o/k mabye I should use it. A Curry perhaps

Slightly off topic but do you remember the coconut shys at fairgrounds where if you knocked it off you were given one? Had fun times trying to open one on the rare occasions I won one.
