We have sprouts every single year for Christmas - and any other day I can get my paws on them. I absolutely love the things.
One of the nicest ways I´ve found to cook them is with butter and walnuts. Cook the sprouts until tender (no, not for 24 hours!! ) drain, put a huge knob of butter in a pan and melt it gently. Add the walnuts and just sauté gently for a few minutes. Now add the sprouts and a tsp of honey. You can also do this with bacon as well if you want.

I'm quite partial to sprouts without further adornment, especially when served with a roast.

I like the sound of the walnuts. My grandmother, who would never waste a thing, served leftover sprouts cold with ground nuts sprinkled over the top. It doesn't sound nice but it was!

Another sprout lover here - & not just for Xmas.....!

Plain, unadorned except for a good grating of pepper & some gravy.... :yum unfortunately The Lushly can't abide them - I don't think he's ever tried them - but easy to prepare & all the more for me I say!

When I make an Indian dish, the sprouts with coconut side dish gets better comments.
It should be cabbage with coconut, but sprouts rock!

Gill, cabbage - or sprouts - and coconut sound great. Is it complicated? Just got a delivery of spring greens and we're planning a curry-ish meal later in the week to go with a couple of frozen COOK dishes.

mark111757, some lovely grub. I wouldn't have thought of battered calamari as well, but certainly one to think about.

Love hasselback spuds - they're one of those things that amuses me just of themselves - especially with salt and a sprinkle of grated parmesan on in last two minutes. I'd do them more often if the oven was on long enough for them to cook through properly, which it is around Christmas 8-)

When you say you're not at home, I do hope all is well and you're not laid up just now or struggling through with ready meals.

My SIL makes a cheat's side dish when she's serving Indian food. Make up a packet of curry sauce (Schwarz or similar). Add a block of coconut cream and stir until melted. Throw in left over/pre-cooked veg and either heat everything through in the pan or put in the oven. It's delish!

Hi jeral

Am presently in a physical rehab/nursing g home facility. Working on walking and trying to mentally get thru the covid stuff.

No ready meals here thankfully. We have a good chef and she does a great job. In fact chicken enchilada are one of two choices Tues for lunch. Mac and cheese later in the week. Both from scratch too. I feel very thankful and fortunate

Can use wheel chair good and transfer to the chair and bed with a Walker.

Hi Mark, I must have missed something. What happened to you to put you in rehab?

I really like Anjum Anand. The recipes on her website aren't plentiful, but they look great: http://www.anjumanand.com/Home/CookBook

This is her unassuming but lovely side dish of stirfried cabbage, bengal gram and coconut: https://www.cooked.com/uk/Anjum-Anand/Q ... nut-recipe
It looks like I embellished it with potatoes and fresh chilli in my not particularly good picture:

Thanks Gill, that looks gorgeous! I don't think I've come across her before. The only "Anand" I've clocked is the political commentator Anand Menon! Somewhat different!

There are some lovely ideas and combinations. Re curry leaves, which are in that particular recipe, I had never used them before and got some dried ones for a recipe a few weeks ago but really don't think they could possibly have been a good sub for fresh, as they gave the whole dish an unpleasant aftertaste. Maybe I used too many. When I tasted a bit of the dried it didn't really taste of anything so I was quite liberal with them.

Lovely Christmas menu Hicky :thumbsup

Does everyone one realise that brussels are not compulsory. If you do have them why disguise them so heavily?

To me that’s a bit like saying why put plain chicken breasts in a sauce to disguise the taste? With cooking of any ingredients , you add things to the main component to complement the flavour and taste . Yes sprouts are lovely simply boiled /steamed but why not elevate them to a different level with added ingredients
