i think kayli is definitely more a northern thing. cousins in grimsby called it that while we called it sherbet, never having heard it called kayli before - like sherbet fountains (spoiled by the 'straw' of liquorice).

I’m sure I can remember Five Boys chocolate being sold from machines on railway station platforms.

Fry’s Turkish Delight was popular, but not with me.
A Scottish friend says that they make a better fritter than a Mars Bar!

My father adored it....
Can you still get Walnut Whips? My mum loved them and so did I.

I love a Walnut Whip. M&S do their own brand. Very nice indeed.
Going back to Stokey Sue’s comment I really like Rose’s Lime Marmalade.
Does anyone remember a drink called PLJ?

Oh I'm trying to remember....
Child of the 70s/80s here, so there were a lot of brands around.
I do remember have a Vienetta at everyone's birthday dinner as a treat - usually after lasagne. I think of vienetta as the dessert equivalent of lasagne - the layers.
Tobelorone whenever we went abroad.
(why's it all chocolate?!)
we always had Heinz beans, I think we all still do only eat heinz beans. I wonder if we could tell the difference on a taste test! Brand loyalty - my sister won a car from them just after she passed her driving test!
Findus crispy pancakes too - used to love them. we always had them on a friday for dinner. (probably with more beans!)
munch bunch yogurts. Loved those. Always my treat lunch when I was off sick from school.

and cornettos. yum. My dad (who is allergic to chocolate) always used to get the most chocolate in the bottom of his cone. We'd joke about it, but he always did somehow. (Obviously now he wouldn't eat any chocolate at all.)

Wasn't it Pure Lemon Juice? Advertised as an aid to weight loss iirc. I vaguely understood that the acidity was supposed to curb appetite but it rotted your teeth, if not your socks, and fell out of favour.

I think more than that, it claimed to 'Melt' fat.
I didn't write the advertising so don't shout at me.
Re: Which branded food . . .
You can still buy PLJ - both lemon and lime. The blurb says it can be used in cooking and looking at the ingredients list, I wouldn't refute that, although the lime is more "pure".
Lime - Lime Juice (99.8%), Vitamin C, Lime Oil, Preservative: Sulphur Dioxide (contains Sulphites)

Presumably it's not dissimilar to the bottled lemon or lime juice sold primarily for cooking purposes

The cooking stuff is cloudy, PLJ is clear so there must be some difference
I always have bottled lemon juice in the fridge though not in a little plastic lemon, Jif lemon seemed rather exotic ca 1960, and we used the plastic lemons as water pistols.. I use the bottled juice, which is not as eye wateringly sharp as I remember Jif, in emergency or where the lemon juice is used as a preservative or cleanser rather than for flavour - dropping some peeled fruit and veg like artichoke hearts into acidulated water, coating the cut surface of an avocado half I'm keeping for tomorrow, washing fish etc; it might even be better for those purposes as it has added ascorbic acid (vitamin C) as a preservative, and the acidity level is controlled
