I saw that report too - but I think it depends on where the food is sourced from. I've found Waitrose fine but Sainsbury's dreadful, with Tesco very little better than Sainsbury's. Overall, I've found that Ocado is the best for me.

What I will say about Tesco is that if an item has a short shelf life it is highlighted on your receipt and you are given the option of not accepting the item. When I have said I don’t want the item the driver refunds the money straight away back to your payment card and often leaves the item, they say it’s too much hassle to take it back.

I’m not sure what other companies do in that situation.

The refund usually hits my credit card before the debit for the full shop.

We've had a large punnet of strawberries from Waitrose delivered at 9pm, 'use by' the following day. Several were furry already. That's probably the worst example.

This was about a year ago when Waitrose were struggling to meet the demand. Our experience is that Tesco, Sainsbury and Ocado have been OK. Tesco seem the most on top of short dates.

When I did a Waitrose order a few weeks ago I put in the notes, please give me the longest dates available on the meat and fish 3 for £10 offer; they were acceptable, if not super long.

I've just seen this on the Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/business/20 ... deliveries

Very sad.

I hope that's not affecting any of us on here?

They were for a while big round here, but I’ve heard nothing of them recently.

Never used them

Hello, thought this might be the best thread to post on, I just got an email from Waitrose saying they were dropping their free newspaper offer from the 22 Feb. It's become part of our Sunday morning, which we combine with fresh baked goodies for breakfast!

I wonder if the reason for this lies with the newspapers or the supermarket? Have any of you heard anything about it?

I don't know, KC2 but this follows on from my comments about Waitrose on Wildie chat earlier today. I think they're in trouble.

I got the email too. It says that they are "replacing the papers with personalised offers" - what that means, I know not.

The current 'personalised' offers of £8 off if you spend £80 on one shop when living alone aren't great!

They are all doing it Morrisons do personalised offers too,p.

My 4 offers are currently
10% off celery
10% off fish or seafood
20% off biscuits
£5 off a £50 shop

That’s the first time I’ve been given a decent amount off, the celery is typical, this gas been going since last summer

I never took advantage of the free paper as I don't shop there very often .. However wondering if what they mean about 'personalised offers' is similar to what Tesco do with their loyalty scheme ... If you regularly buy something, you often get a voucher of extra points, or money off that certain product.

I have only ever received a money off voucher if I spend more than £40 .... and there is an expiry date. :( I have never, to my recollection, ever received a voucher for a discount of a specific product that I may by regularly from them.

Nor me, Pat. Just £8 off an £80 shop . I like Sainsburys Nectar points, it's quite straightforward and you feel as though you're getting something. Tesco clubcard used to be good but I never shop there so don't know if it is now.

Is it the free paper or free newspapers that Waitrose is stopping - or both? I take the free one for the crossword, glance at the rest then save the paper as I don't get much newspaper these days. Possibly not beneficial for Waitrose .
