Mobile phone users *POLL ADDED
I've just made a tweak which might make the site slightly easier to use for mobile phone users - feedback please!

Re: Mobile phone users
I've just logged out and in again on my iPhone ... can't spot any difference so far ...
Re: Mobile phone users
Not working for me at all . The size of the page has gone really small and narrow
Re: Mobile phone users
On mine the end result of that "narrowing" is that the final column when you drill down to the post is much more readable. I'll leave it in place for 24 hours, if the consensus is that it is not an improvement I'll switch back.
EDIT: P.S. I don't usually use phone, so am not really used to the site on a phone "on the fly".

Re: Mobile phone users
On both tablet and phone it seems to fit better in landscape (iPhone and iPad)
However, either your tweaks or something I’ve done has set everything from “unread” to “read” I usually do a quick peek by tapping on View Unread Posts in the Board Index and now there aren’t any - if I look at View Active Topics there are several topics that I haven’t been following, for example Masterchef, that have newish posts I certainly haven’t seen but are showing as having no unread posts

Re: Mobile phone users
Sue, in order to make the change "live", I had to "purge the cache", that is probably where your updated info disappeared to, i.e. temporary aberration.

Thanks, so other people will be likely to see the same thing as me

Can't help you I'm afraid. My eyesight isn't good enough to read the board on the phone without screwing up my eyes.

Re: Mobile phone users
However now I’m on the iPad and everything appears to be in smallish square boxes. I suppose I’ll get used to it.
Re: Mobile phone users
I was going to say it shouldn't change the page on a computer, but when replying I realise it does, as the "entry box" when posting now resizes on my computer...
Re: Mobile phone users
No, you're right, it does the same thing on the old board on my computer too, which didn't have the tweak.

Re: Mobile phone users
I use my Android mobile a lot to view these pages. I prefer it to be portrait but find the columns long and thin now and where the name of the author of a thread is on the left, the page numbers are all bunched up.
I agree that the presentation in landscape is quite good but it's not so easy to hold a phone in one hand like that.
When in the middle of writing a post as I am now, scrolling down to read previous comments in the portrait position is actually very good with wider paragraphs but it doesn't stay like that for normal reading when I am not posting.

Re: Mobile phone users
When using my tablet, which is the device I use almost all the time, I'm finding the text in the posts has gotten smaller. When I first click on the thread the text is larger as it has always been then, after a few seconds, it gets smaller.
Not a deal breaker but my poor old eyes like the larger text .

Re: Mobile phone users
on my iPhone, in portrait, the page has really narrowed to using a quarter of the width on the index, the next quarter by the avatars, the next by the writing/reading pane and the last quarter by nothing. when i rotate the phone to landscape, the view and writing size increase but the proportions of screen used are pretty much the same - with the right hand quarter unused.
i don't know how others feel but the change holds no advantage for me. the only difference from the laptop i had on the old version, was that the title of the 'other stuff' section didn't appear on the phone - but was easy enough to get to from the index.
the mac view doesn't seem to have changed at all.
interestingly, there is one post that extends across the phone's fourth quarter and that's herbi's with the photo of her tomato plants. maybe the addition of a photo makes a difference.
i just stretch the text to fit the screen, normally.

Re: Mobile phone users
It’s kinda weird and in my opinion the old layout was much better. The text column is very narrow which makes it difficult to read.

.
Much easier to read, Sakk Big phone user here and used to pull landscape view outwards to enlarge posts column text width to fit screen. Works great in vertical mode too which makes a huge difference as I'd all but given up that view for scroll reading. Works for me. Mercy buckets. Mainly using S8+.
