Re: Favourite sandwiches
ah, you've reminded me Sue, condensed milk on plain white bread was such a treat!! (A bit like the golden syrup on left over yorkshire pudd!)
We used to get Wilfred the baker's day old bread (delivered) because it was cheap. We never had butter. Echo marge on everything I recall.

Winnie the Pooh liked condensed milk. I've never had it on bread. I think it's probably too late to start!

Wasn´t Elvis Presley´s favourite a peanut butter and smashed banana sandwich?

My grandma loved sugar butties and also condensed milk. I have to admit neither appeal to me.
Both food of the gods

A surprising number of people do - think about it, if you wake up in the night feeling "wrong" but not ill enough to dial 999, most people go to the bathroom "just in case"
I remember explaining this to my dad when his favourite cousin died.

Gawd - reading this thread has reminded me of long lost memories - I used to love sugar sandwiches - this from a woman who cannot stand much sugar now - also remember sarnies with tomato ketchup, another treat..... but then I used to drink neat brown vinegar too when no-one was looking - A sign of things to come......

Actually this makes sense.
I've had to phone ambulances loads of times as I have brittle asthma, and always go to the loo first as there obviously isn't one in an ambulance
If it suddenly got worse...

Re: Favourite sandwiches
When I had my heart attack, I didn't get chest pains, or a pain in the left arm, I got very bad back pain that was similar to the pain I got from my gall stones. In chatting with the people in rehab, most had chest pain, but back pain is quite common, some others had a severe stomach pain and were still in the loo when the ambulance arrived, having been called by their spouse.
It could be a good idea for older people to change the toilet/bathroom door to open outwards. If you collapse in there, you may jam the door shut...

I would need come strong cheddar to go with the onion ... cheese and onion sandwiches were iirc, the staple at Darts matches in pubs this reminds me I haven't had one for years

Re: Favourite sandwiches
Well make yourself a cheese savoury sandwich. Get some really strong grated cheddar. Add about a tsp of grated red pepper, the same of carrot and as much grated spring onion as you fancy. Bind it together with salad cream. I could just fancy one right now.

I like cheese and onion too - has to be "mousetrap" cheddar (ie VERY strong!
Re: Favourite sandwiches
my brother and i made ourselves 'an inch thick tomato ketchup sandwich' once, when we were little - as wot woz eaten by 'the perishers'.
only the once - it didn't 'splosh', just dribbled - and it wouldn't have gone well if our mother had found out.

Shula (aka Judy Bennett) was in the cast of The Perishers.
Re: Favourite sandwiches
Cheese & marmite sandwiches are probably my favourite & I've never tired of them since childhood.
The cheese has to be extremely strong vintage cheddar, the strongest I can find. Lashings of marmite.
I like it best on a very chewy, well textured bread, doesn't even need butter I find. Yum.
