Favourite sandwiches
On the chip butty thread , a few of us were saying how amazing fishfinger sandwiches were . Toasted white bread , well done fishfingers and lots of tartare sauce .
What are everyone else’s favourite sandwich combinations ?
I love a really mature cheddar , red onion marmalade and fresh tomato in a baguette . Pesto , mozzarella and tomato are good in a baguette too .
Can’t beat a bit of leftover curry in a naan bread morning after the night before either

Re: Favourite sandwiches
I absolutely love cheese and pickle. Really strong cheddar with some Branstons. I’ve tried so many posh pickles and chutneys and not found anything I like as much.
If I’m having a hot sandwich, I like cheese and zhoug paste or chilli jam.

Oh Lordy, so many sandwiches, so little time
Here goes
Any variation of a full English in a baguette

Cheese & onion
Cheese & pickle
Cheese & beetroot
Cheese & watercress
Salt Brisket, tomato & mustard
Roast beef & horserubbish
Hot roast pork
Cold pheasant
Pan bagna

Any cheese based toastie
Various quesadillas

I quite like a fish finger sandwich too. Po' boys would probably make the list too, but haven't tried them yet.
Probably forgotten a few.

Re: Favourite sandwiches
The oldies are the best!
Egg (mashed with salad cream) and cress.
Cheese (mature cheddar)and tomato.
Cheese (mature cheddar) and pickle.
I'm rather fond of the seafood/prawn combinations around too, usually mixed with a small amount of marie-rose sauce.
Sliced sausages and mustard with tomato/lettuce
Salad and pickle.
Chicken Mayo with lettuce and mango chutney
I rather like the ones sometimes served at Christmas with a lot of Christmas Dinner items and some Branston crammed in too.
PP - anything's good in a baguette .

Re: Favourite sandwiches
I like a good fish finger butty (Waitrose chunky ones are very good) - but have never heard of having them on toast!
Some of my favourite butties :
home cooked free-range turkey with avocado slices and garlic mayo
"mousetrap" cheddar with red onion
"mousetrap" cheddar with red onion, English mustard and chips
griddled chicken breast with mayo and salad (no tomato)

Re: Favourite sandwiches
Cheddar, piccalilli and beetroot
Mozzarella, cherry tomato, rocket and basil, with a few capers thrown in for good luck.
Brie, tomatoes, lettuce and black pepper
Croydon Sandwich ( because I worked there in 1976!) Cream cheese, mixed veg salad (diced tomato, pepper, cucumber, celery, chiles)
Pastrami - cut really thin - Polish style pickles, mustard.
Sausage sarnie. Just bangers and mustard.

Re: Favourite sandwiches
I worked in West and South Croydon in the mid 80s. There was a deli close to work and we usually got our lunchtime sandwiches from there. For a while there was a competition to see who ordered the most outlandish, but edible, filling, based on cream cheese. I never did very well but really got to like cream cheese and anchovies.

Never toasted! Has to be a bit squishy to contrast with the crisp crumb on the fish finger.
I am not a great sandwich aficionado, I am hoping for inspiration, not very keen on the texture of sliced meat or chicken in bread
Some I like: smoked salmon with cream cheese, egg and anchovy, egg mayo, tuna salad, peanut butter and dill pickle, almost any cheese sandwich but special mention to ripe Brie with leftover cranberry sauce
At uni we ate cheddar with salad cream and sliced raw chilli, might try that with my jalapeños
In meat apart from bacon and sausage I like ox tongue with mustard

That´s got to be a killer!
Re: Favourite sandwiches
.
Big sandwich eaters here.
All time fave - holiday roast cold turkey leftover sandwich:
Bought big and soft sliced wholemeal bread, best bought mayo, stuffing, sliced turkey, whole plain cranberry sauce. Better than the big meal.
Bacon sarnie on brown bread, wiggly with brown sauce. Caff bought only.
Wow. Extreme. But can see it.

Re: Favourite sandwiches
Now you mention it, a few crisps in certain kinds of sandwich (cheesy/salady ones) are rather nice. Only plain crisps though .
Re: Favourite sandwiches
tomato sandwich - bread, spread with mayonnaise, chopped/sliced tomato, basil - dried or fresh (both good but different) salt and pepper.
a spanish friend argued the toss with me once that the best tomato sandwich should just be buttered bread, tomato and salt (the spanish way) but had to admit defeat after trying my way.
i rather like the simplicity of cucumber sandwiches, too. (and yes, they are served, crusts off, by the local aristocracy at afternoon tea).

Same here. We'd both be disqualified from Danny Baker's sausage sandwich game.

Re: Favourite sandwiches
I love a sandwich, anything except raw onion I'm happy with between two slices of bread or in a roll . I love both hot and cold fillings.
Sliced egg, tomato and salad cream has to be in my top ten but the winner for me is the annual Christmas day leftovers one on Boxing day. Butter, mashed banana and Branston pickle in granary bread is one I take a notion for every so often.
