I bought some sliced tongue (can't remember which one) lambs I think yesterday and had a slice on a slice of seedy buttered bread, delish !

I also like a mix of chopped celery, grated cheese and mayo as a filling in a sarnie.

As far as I remember my flat mate, fairly noticeable Lincoln accent, said haze-let but when he found it on a London deli counter had to ask for hazz-let
It's a bit dry for my taste in a sandwich

The best is ox tongue but “lunch tongue” is pork. Cheaper and nice but doesn’t have that richness :yum

Lamb tongues are nice braised with caper sauce (hot dinner)

'hazz-let' was definitely in the north herts butcher's shop my mother used in the sixties.
(the one next door, that my aunt used was much nicer. if i went in with her they'd give me big wadges of the white wrapping paper to draw on).

Plenty of haslet ( soft H & S) growing up in South Wales, & still readily obtainable there along with brawn/faggots etc.

The hard 'z' - especially when dropping the 'H' sounds like estate agent speak - as in the property ( H)as - let......!

I've never seen lamb tongue either, but often buy ox or pork sliced.
My daughter thinks it's disgusting!

I'd never have thought of combining egg with mango chutney. Was the egg mashed or sliced?

It was sliced. Spread two slices of bread with mango chutney, place sliced HB egg on to one piece of bread, place other slice of bread chutney side down on top of egg. Serve

It was Ox tongue, even 'he' tried it and announced it was tasty.

Bought a prawn & mayo sarnie (Ginsters) very disappointed with the amount of filling, received a voucher within a day, so must not forget to take it with me next time I am shopping.

Having made Mamta's broccoli dish and found it makes a good sarnie filling, will make some for my veggie guests tomorrow.
