Wildfood RIP

Postby riocaz » Mon Jun 15, 2020 1:43 pm

OK, I'm sorry I've been silent on the subject so long. But the fact is the board is dead.

When the hosting company forced that update it killed something beyond my ability to fix without making further updates. The problem is the board is so old and the database so large, that automated updating takes so long the system thinks it's timed out and fails. Which corrupts the database. Which is why I hadn't done it.

I've tried multiple times, and only ever succeed in breaking it further.

It's gone and is not coming back.

I have managed to get it back a readable state. But no one (including me) can post. That's the best I can do.

Gosh, Lee, that is sad. But thank you so, so much for all your hard work on it over the years. It has been a fantastic resource and forum for virtual and actual friends and hugely appreciated.

Thank you for getting it back into a readable state so we can refer back to all the invaluable info that has accumulated during its long lifetime :thumbsup :thumbsup

Thanks for the update, Lee and a huge pat on the back for all the hard work you´ve put in over the years on Wildfood. It´s a huge shame that it´s crashed but there´s nothing to be done.

Thank you Lee ... and thank you for all that you've done over the years ... I'm not exaggerating when I say that Wildfood has contributed enormously to the quality of my life and given me real life friends I would never have met otherwise. I owe you a huge debt of gratitude ... if you're ever in need of B&B in Norwich there's a bed and a meal for you here.

And thank you too to Sakkarin and all the regulars here for making us feel so welcome :wave ........... I hope the invasion hasn't been too traumatic and that you're happy for us to stay :newhuggy

Huge thanks Lee for starting and running the Wildie board for so long. It has been so appreciated. As Suffs has said, it has meant a great deal to those who used it and great friendships have been kept and/or made since the beeb board closed - goodness knows how many years ago now.

Maybe we can have a Wildie meet and treat you sometime when life as we knew it eventually resumes. We owe you big time.

Now we'll have to ask Sakkarin very nicely if we may stay ... :crossed.

Hi Lee

I can only echo what everyone else has said, but once a Wildie, always a Wildie. I remain Wildie At Heart. But very happy to have found a new home and kept friends old and made friends new.

I can only echo what the others have said. Thanks for hosting the board and I for one am truly gutted for its demise. Thanks again.

I’d also like to thank Sakkarin for accepting lots of waifs and strays when Wildfood ‘broke down’.

Cheers

That is sad, and a huge thanks from me too. I am very glad we are mostly all here and together, so thanks to Sakkarin too. Certainily the early days of lockdown would have been a more lonely and more anxious time without Wildfood and new freinds to talk to.

Pleased to hear it can be read. I have wanted to refer to it from time to time in th last few months.

Repeating really what others have already said . However though very sad , it has been nice that everyone is now together in one place . I’ve always posted here , probably more in the last year or so than WF but it’s good to see others have come across .

Maybe it would be good to somehow merge the two chatterbox threads together so it’s less Wildies and others but one big family ??
