I'm ashamed to say that I have never heard of this lady but this looks very interesting and worth a watch.

What a fascinating lady she is! I had never heard of her, but after watching the official clip, I want to learn more! She often travelled alone with a tape recorder and sometimes a pistol!

She sounds familiar but I don't think I I've heard of her either. Certainly looks worth more investigation.

I must work out what 'media platforms' means and whether I can access any of them .

I was completely lost too, Earthmaiden, when I read about 'media platforms'.

The name sounds familiar, but I bet there are lots of people with that name, I didn’t associate it with México particularly

Digital media platforms just means any way you can watch a video or film over an internet connection instead of on broadcast TV, so Netflix, YouTube, Prime, iPlayer, etc

The documentary, Diana Kennedy: Nothing Fancy, seems to be available on YouTube, Google Play and Amazon Prime, but it’s paid content, you have to pay to watch

Thanks Sue. I know what it means but don't subscribe to access any of them and tend to switch off my brain if I've got to find out where something will be shown other than on my telly so that's very helpful.

It'll turn up free eventually. They usually do.

Yes, I´ve heard of her! She wrote the bible of Mexican cookery - which I was going to buy when in Mexico , but decided not to because it wouldn´t fit in my suitcase :crying1
I did have a quick flip through the book, however. It´s so thorough, it´s terrifying! I had no idea she was still alive. The film must be amazing.

What is amazing is that she is white and English and was instrumental in putting Mexican cuisine on the world’s food map.

,

She's a great and excellent grand dame of Mexican cooking but as a longtime Brit expat in the US and Mexico since the 1970s she hasn't been very well known in the UK until recently, after a documentary on her came out.

I don't know what relevance being white is in this context TBH. Implies that Mexicans are not "white" - whatever that means in terms of Mexican demographics which is very mixed - not sure what the author intended. Not a very well written article ....

Very definitely worth checking out her books. And the documentary. Amazing woman.

I'd love to watch the documentary and hope that I get the chance to do this one day.

My Mexican cookery bible, it's taken a pounding over the years, held together with sticky tape! Written in 1965 so precedes DK's book by 7 years, although my copy is dated 1978 - probably the third cookery book I ever bought, the first two being Marguerite Patten's 1001 recipes and the Dairy Book of Home Cooking. I will have to check out the Diane Kennedy if people rate it, had heard of it as it features in the piccy from "The Foodie Handbook", from 1984 that I posted last year.

I have already bought the Jennifer Brennan Thai book on the basis of it being on that pic, and it is absolute rubbish, so I've resisted the urge since!

It's nice to see a cookery book that has been so well used Sakkarin!

The Marguerite Patten and Dairy Home Cookbook are both in far worse condition!

I remember the Dairy Home Cookbook. I bought the first one from the milkman many years ago. It was good.
