AArrgh - embarrassing typo   I'm using lockdown to try to learn to type with both hands - there have been some crackers.

So do I but I've forgotten it 24 hours later.

Well, I had to look it up diddle I? Sort of obligatory really. Anyway, "ipse dixit" means something only true because he himself said it. So, unsupported and might or might not be true.

I imagine Mr Gove's words this morning as a government minister are a good example whereby he urged us to believe the words he said were true but actually some critical ones weren't.

Can it noun-ised? As in "He's a right ipse dixit!"

I know - I've been spending lockdown studying the classics. In fact I've read so much Greek poetry, I think I'm coming down with Ovid - 19.

Here's a couple of food-related words:

Bellygod - a glutton. Someone who makes a god of his belly
Pingle - to eat with little or no appetite.

I have to be seriously poorly before I pingle! ;)

I had to look up Ovid. I notice he wrote Metamorphoses, which coincidentally is the word I decided was the first my newborn would say. Either that or "curtains", being easier to articulate. But nope, it was "Dad".

I wonder if the makers of Pringles cottoned on to pingle?

A couple I know had a friendly contest as to whether baby would say Mum or Dad first. Nope - she sat in her high chair, pointed clearly and squealed Cat!
