That was very unexpected but so impressive. TBH I was expecting ideas for what to do with leftover rice for some reason

Wow! I thought it was going to be about recipes too.
Very impressive creations, but, being an insect myself, I would have to pick the mantis as the winner- it's awesome!

Grasshopper

Spring ventures forth to plant the grain
And Summer dries the straw.
Autumn gathers in the harvest
And Winter shuts the door.

I wonder if they put birdfeed in amongst. It'd be idyllic to see little Disney chirrupy birds adorning the sculptures. Or alternatively that they pesticide-treat them against termites, ants etc.

All natural though. I'm wondering what will be done with the mountains of perspex Covid19 screens. Not the best start for a future world without plastic. Maybe there should be a world competition re possible uses afterwards.

i think they will be in use for quite a while - with subsequent waves of the virus - and may possibly remain in use as people will be used to them by then, they'll be the norm.

If screens will become the norm and even more prevalent, surely we humans will have the common sense to go back to nature and make them from rice stalks, canes, bamboo, reeds, banana leaves, straw, etc. Betcha we will as surely Covid19 is a wake-up call to stop wrecking things and to recognise that Nature controls itself better than man's destructive interventions.

You never know, natural things might even have anti-viral properties borne from fighting off bacteria and insects that would otherwise eat them. (If they haven't been made sterile by genetic engineering.)

Food for thought and wish I'd still be here in the future, as long as Bird's custard powder and Yorks Puds still exist, and vanilla slices and...

But you wouldn't be able to see through them!

Pampy, how is not seeing through screens a problem? What is there to see? Plus all are open at one end if not both so are intended only to prevent face-to-face transmission.

I'm not much fussed what the people at the next table are eating or what they look like. Pubs used to have wooden dividers, usually seating four or six, at the perimeter away from the bar, so dividers are hardly a new thing, which surely could be adapted for individuals, pairs, or four or more if together.

If dividers are here to stay, then durable tempered glass will logically supersede deteriorating perspex or plexiglass screens anyway if transparency is desirable.

But don't you want to be able to communicate with the person on the checkout when you are in the supermarket?

Yes, they are like the screens in banks and post offices, which are always glass or acrylic, be hard to work in a dark kennel where you can’t see the customers nicking the stock
