Probably about 1986.
When we moved to this house, we had milk from a local dairy, which was delivered at about 6 am, ideal, because it could be brought in first thing. After a few years the dairyman retired and the round was sold to Express Dairies. Milk was then delivered at about midday, which meant that by the time someone was home to take it in, it had gone off in summer or was attacked by the birds in winter. A couple of years of that and we decided enough, so it's the supermarket now.

I've never ever seen my milkman. He delivers at about 3.50 am. Even when I used to do the night shift I never bumped into him!

And Summer dries the straw.
Autumn gathers in the harvest
And Winter shuts the door.

When I was little we had Jersey milk from a herd on the fields by the sea, we could walk down and watch the ladies chewing the cud

Came in a glass bottle with a gold foil top

We sometimes we used to take off the “top of the milk” and use it as cream

Do you like cream cheese / Paneer? I made some at the weekend with full cream pasteurised milk using this recipe

https://myfoodstory.com/make-homemade-p ... 5-minutes/

It's a doodle. I used lemon juice . Next time I'll add some cream as it was a bit dry, though fine for cheese & potato pierogi.

Milk in glass bottles ? Not seen any for décades, alas.

Back in the 60s & 70s we had gold top, too, and loved Top of the Milk, until everyone became lipophobic. We've used 1% for a while, (not quite the same!) but these days of course we're happy for whatever anyone brings us!

I did buy a few litres of CI milk last year when I had a go at making Halloumi.

It usually ends up as paneer or kulfi*...

This time round I fancy some bread and butter pud though, as I've got far too many eggs now having had to buy a pack of 15 as that was all they had left the other day. No shop planned for a couple of days though to source some commercial bread, unless I feel like making a special batch. I fancy proper sliced white bread pud though...

EDIT: * or carrot halva. That may be my next move...

We still get our milk delivered in glass bottles. It used to be daily, but now it's three times a week.

Noice One Pampy!
That cheerful chink chink when it's placed on the doorstep - somehow very reassuring - no chance of delivery here I'm afraid.

Now I'm thinking of Earnie who rode the fastest milkcart in the west :D

I’m on the lookout now for a crate to put the empties in. Our excellent ironmongers has sold out and doesn’t know when they will get any more.
