Gosh, I always think of tofu of something to use instead of animal protein!

This is from a Japanese/American recipe book and tofu is an ingredient rather than a total meat/fish replacement.

Sorry to keep going on about my todu meal, but I think one of the reasons it was too much was that some of the dishes should have involved fish. They went to so very much trouble to make it vegetarian for me, but it clearly wasn't what they were used to. They were very very kind..

Could you do that with desiccated coconut, KK?

the problem with decimated coconut, in my opinion, is that it´s probably had all the goodness sucked out of it. you could try, of course.

karadekoolaid i think you mean desiccated not decimated.
also you can make a very good faux cheese cake with coconut milk but
this thread is about tofu so that is discussion for another day.

ps I still can not start new tread or pm the moderator with
help dealing with problem.

lfoxr, a lot of people here say decimated as a joke - especially as some dislike it and feel that the description fits.

Had you intended to post a link?

I've seen a Youtube of a pressed firm tofu "fish" wrapped in a nori (seaweed) sheet and deep fried in batter. (There was probably a paté-type flavour slurp under the nori but can't remember.) This, I reckon, depends on how good at making batter you are, given anything tastes good battered with a dip.

My vegan friends (strict, but still like meat-tasting things) often add shitake mushrooms, which even smell like meat weirdly, to tofu stir fries, or tofu/chickpea/blackbean/spinach casseroles.
---

Ifoxr, look up Malapropisms, after the initiator Mrs Malaprop who was a fictional character in a humorous play. "Decimated" is strangely accurate re coconut given that what remains is at least a reduction of 11/12ths of the original size.

That's about the way I fry tofu - never press it first!

I also like scrambled tofu - haven't done it for a while but a link from that pan-fried tofu recipe reminded me of it. Not for breakfast though!

Mapo tofu looks good. Post pandemic, though, vis a vis ingredients.
