Oh Smitch... so sorry poor Nelly is so poorly....
Suffs, I've only recently discovered knitting (my 'Covid New Skill Project') but whilst I don't suffer like you do, I am prone to neck & shoulder pain and I've found that using circular needles really helps. Sorry if I'm teaching my grandmother to suck eggs but thought I'd mention it.

Good morning
We had superb birdsong this morning - we are supposed to be a particularly good spot for it, the parakeets seem to have gone down to the river for lockdown
But now what I can mainly hear is some minor building repair going on over the road
Sorry to hear about Nelly smitch
Have a good day everyone

I forgot to add earlier, did anyone watch GBBO, the Professionals on C4 last night, there were the usual disasters with the Showpiece. There was a short trailer for The Great Australian BO to be shown on More 4 sometime soon.

what did they think would happen? that he would disengage it just for them‽‽
no, i don't watch that one - i don't find any joy in it (it may have changed but i haven't watched since the first series).

People round here are obviously now sick and tired of pasta - no spuds in Morrisons, this morning. Or bananas either - a lot of banana cakes being made? - is that the thing where bananas sub for eggs, which we now have in at long last?

Re: Wildfood campsite
I'm wondering if the least available foods are distributed on rota around the supermarkets - it seems that one week one store has lots of something the others don't and then the next week it changes to another.
I have finally got black treacle and condensed milk, no flour in Sainsburys but lots in M&S, eggs in Sainsburys still a mish mash of sizes and quantities (but that's fine). GD's ma likes jars of pickled cockles (don't ask!). They have been very hit and miss. Shame about spuds and bananas though, are there any small shops that might have them?

It’s my left shoulder Scully ... last time it was my right ... I seem to develop what the physio says are ‘impingements’ which eventually disappear ... possibly to do with my thyroid and how I process calcium ... or possibly not.
Re: Wildfood campsite
tried turmeric as an anti-inflammatory? and a different knitting position?
put in and tied up the bean poles. they were twining before i'd finished!
it must be warm - i'm wearing shorts (well, longs, my lower legs are visible).

Re: Wildfood campsite
I am amazed that the UK is still suffering from food shortages. Cyprus has had few problems, most of the flour sold here is ground from imported wheat. I know that there has been shortage of specialist sugars but that can happen any time, still no Dove Farm yeast.
Personally the greatest problem has been the shortage of printed matter, especially listings magazines so we have no idea what is on TV in advance. No Sunday Times, it is printed here for onward carriage to the Middle East. In both cases it is because there are no flights.
On the other hand the fruit and veg that is normally exported has stayed here.

Could your last sentence explain the first? If the UK is experiencing food shortages it could be because the food we normally import from other countries is staying in its country of origin?

Re: Wildfood campsite
our trip to the beach consisted of a circuit of the packed carpark(s) and roadsides and straight back to get milk.
didn't fancy picking our way between people at the top of the beach - it was like the summer holidays - when we don't, usually, go down.
maybe in a few days time, when people would have gone home for dinner (and it's low tide) we'll go down for a walk.
i think my partner - sorry, the sun - has burned the cake.

Re: Wildfood campsite
There isn't a flour shortage - in the sense that there is more than enough for us to eat nationally
There is a shortage of smallish packs of flour for domestic use, which is a rather different thing, my local Morrison's got in a lot of 1.5 kg packs, and people stocked up again, perpetuating the shortage - there are apparently very few places that can package flour in those familiar paper packs, and so they are having trouble getting ahead of demand
There has never really been a pasta shortage in most areas, except in the big supermarkets, Family run groceries and delis round here have had a selection in stock other than for a few days early on. And if the big chains don't have it, it's not available for home delivery of course. Most of it does come in from Italy, so it probably has been difficult to import the amounts supermarkets need with both countries locked down.
When people talk about shortages they seem to mean "not in my local supermarkets" - some things have been in genuinely short supply but not many
The thing that hasn't been hard to come by here, to my surprise, is fresh fish - who on earthe is going out catching it and landing it in lockdown? I suppose there's much less fish than usual in the system as no restaurants, and there's certainly less variety so maybe it's only farmed and day boat but still

Local pub, where grandson works, is doing fish boxes once a fortnight - £20, taking pot luck what's in the box.
Last week it consisted of a 600g of filleted hake, four plaice fillets and four lemon sole. Good value, even comparing with weekly fish van. Fishing vessels are still going out, they need some income.
Way back there was mention of bees swarming. Here's photo from Bishops Auckland, courtesy of the Northern Echo.

That pic is making all my epipens twitch Dennis...…...
Re: Wildfood campsite
Went out to get some plumbing bits and came home past Aldi. I saw no queue, so I went in. It was virtually deserted. Later on I did a drive by at Costco and there was a long queue.
Re: Wildfood campsite
I said to my mum the other day I went into Lidl’s , walked straight in , no queue . As I left , there was a queue of 10-15 people waiting to get in. Equivalent of winning the lottery nowadays

Sorry about that luscious, but swarming bees don't sting. Said my Dad, who not only had an epipen but also kept bees!
