Delivery from Betty's (hurrah)

Postby Binky » Wed Mar 18, 2020 3:36 pm

This is my haul from Betty's in Harrogate. We can't get flour in my part of Essex, so baking is out of the question.

Will you join me in a virtual cup of tea and slice of cake?

Sounds like a good idea Binky! Bit of Yorkshire Fruitcake would go down nicely

Looks lovely. Think I might treat us to a delivery at some point over the next couple of weeks.

Make the most of your haul. Yesterday Bettys announced that all cafes and the cookery school were closing until the Covid 19 situation changes.

I’m not surprised, they rely heavily on the tourist trade, York is deserted, I’m assuming the other branches will be similarly affected.

Quite a few of our local independent food shops and cafes/restaurants are doing delivery service now . I think it’s a good idea and will hopefully generate some income for them too .

Your delivery looks good Binky . I think in these uncertain times, it’s nice to be able to have small treats while we can

My goodness, the florentines are so delicious.

I think hubby will have to hide the stash away before I guzzle the lot. :gonzo

I just posted about making a fruit cake in the fruit cake thread, just realised what prompted me to make it, I'm pretty sure your pic was lodged in my subconscious!

That is bad news indeed, BusyBee.

York is where my sister and ma lived for 20-odd years. We have been into Betty's Cafe together on many occasions and there was always a queue, even on winter mornings. From memory, the tables were a tad close to each other.

If they are closing the shops, does that mean the mail order stops? They might be keen to sell as much as possible to keep going

From what I can see, the both the shops and online ordering are still open - it's just the cafes and cookery school that are closed.

Sorry, yes, I never think of them as cafés, but tea shops so slightly confused

I've been into the Northalllerton cafe as well, and the tables are a little close together as well.

I haven't had a florentine for years.

Will have to be careful as one of my molar teeth has become sensitive.
I'm hoping it will wear off mysteriously. But during these troubled weeks, although the dentist is open! (what's that about), I am eating on one side of my face only.
It's more difficult than you'd think.
