I put them in the bottom tray with just enough water to at least 2/3 cover them, if your bottom tray will not hold water then any dish will do the same

Adding water seems counter intuitive
I keep carrots like other veg in green bags in the veg drawer of the ffridge, with a paper towel in the bag as they sweat a bit
They last for weeks

Exactly what I do, too. I also change the paper towel if it gets too wet.

So do I and when they begin to look sad freeze them for veg stock.
