Joan, we're thinking about you.
As you are all pretty much aware, Joan is going through a tough stint at the moment.
We know she's been in hospital for 8 weeks now, and that her anticipated discharge date was not going to be any time soon.
Joan not only got a vicious virus in December that put her in hospital, but she also had a bacterial infection in her leg which has been treated.
Both problems have weakened her, she really isn't up to any social media, or food forum chat.
And with other complications conspiring against her, Joan has still not been released.
Her family and friends have been around all the time, and her husband is coping admirably.
When her release does happen, it looks as though she will be moved to a convalescence home really close to their hameau, with a chef. That's not quite going to happen just yet though.
So let's all wish Joan the very best. Her presence is sorely missed. xxx

Re: Joan, we're thinking about you.
Lots of love to Joan who has been such an inspiring writer on here and on the old BBC board. xxxx
Re: Joan, we're thinking about you.
She certainly is missed, so enjoyed all her insights to the French way of life where they live. Good to know hubby is OK as well.
Thanks for keeping us up to date Gill.

Her presence surely, not absence?

Thanks for that Gill. My best wishes to Joan, who has been such a vital member of the foodie community for so long.

Lots of gentle hugs from me too ... It is a privilege being able to call you a friend albeit more virtual than actual, but it was great meeting you in London on one of our meets ... Thoughts and prayers winging your way and hopes that you continue to improve day by day xxx
Re: Joan, we're thinking about you.
I was thinking about joan, and the lack of her posts for many weeks.
I didn't want to ask, as some people prefer privacy, so I am really glad that gill has been able to glean this info.
Get well soon joan, and take it easy when you are discharged. Eight weeks in hospital is serious stuff.

Thank you so much for the update Gill.
Joan is missed so much here and I have learned so much from her over the years. I'm glad that her husband is coping.
Please send my love and best wishes.

We certainly are thinking of you, Joan. And I am hoping you get better really soon, because we´re missing a vital member of the Food Board here. Seriously missing
Obviously, we´re awaiting good news and that you´ve been released with a clean bill of health. Meanwhile, I just hope the hospital food in Provence is up to their impeccable standards.

Yes, thanks Gill
Fingers crossed for Joan, wishing her well. She has been and hopefully will again be a major contributor to the boards.

Here's hoping Joanbunting is getting a bit stronger each day after the virus. Those things knock you for six so am joining in the encouragement and determination she needs to get the better of it and be well again soon
Re: Joan, we're thinking about you.
As an aside, a good friend of mine had a car accident in France in the late 1970s. The car was a write-off and she spent a couple of weeks in a French hospital. Luckily for her she was a fluent French speaker having studied at university.
All she could talk about afterwards was the wonderful French hospital food. Being a Yorkshire lass, she had never encountered artichokes, aubergines, courgettes, and fabulous desserts. Students in those days lived on crepes, sausages and baguettes and cheese, so the hospital food was a revelation. I hope joan is being fed just as handsomely.
