Valentines Plans

Postby Gillthepainter » Wed Feb 12, 2020 8:59 am

We do usually celebrate Valentines with a meal out.
But we have more memorable poor meals, than excellent evenings out.
Our worst was an Indian romantic menu for 2, and we were the only people in the room. Not a problem for us, except they'd watered down the food so much in anticipation of a full house.
Wishy washy dishes and stroppy service.

At the Brasserie Blanc, I ordered the terrine, but they'd ground sinew and knuckle into the mix. Vile.

This year, we're moving the moment to Saturday 15th. And we are having a Thai meal.

Any plans your way?

One of our favourite breweries has a birthday event on Friday, so we'll probably go to that. I've ordered some nice cheese, and will pick up a sourdough loaf from a bakery in town for when we get home. Will serve with a nice bottle of beer, possibly a lambic or a saison.

It is our anniversary on Sunday, so we'll be celebrating a day early. I've booked us in for cocktails at a 'secret' cocktail bar that we've been to before, followed by an early dinner at an independent pasta place http://www.pastafactory.co.uk/ Depending on how full we are, we'll either head home afterwards or go for a couple of beers.

One of our most memorable Valentine's Day dinners was when we had to share a table with another couple. He'd planned to give her a romantic gift of jewellery during the meal - it was rather embarrassing when he got the box out and presented it to her. We had to pretend to be distracted with our meal so as not to spoil the moment!

Nothing for me, but my daughter and her boyfriend are going to see Sonic the hedgehog film in 4d!
They did celebrate their 3 yr anniversary yesterday with a Japanese meal out so I guess that's the foodie bit.

I´ve been invited to cook with a bunch of young cooks - none of whom are attached - and we´re going to make an Indian Feast. It´s going to be fun! I love these kids; they´re all members of a Catering brigade and are always looking for new ideas.
And for me, it will be St Valentine´s Day, not some other silly name !

Happy Anniversary for Sunday, Snitch.
And to your daughter, Marmite. Although I thought she was still about 10yrs old.

I'm making Tony's card today. I say making, I'm printing out a flower painting I've done.
We don't really do flowers and chocs.

Megan, we once went to a meal out and were next to a Canadian couple who talked non-stop to us. Another failed Valentines dinner.
It's something I really do not like, being talked to by other tables. But some people enjoy it I suppose.

Happy cooking, KKA. I really need to up my Indian game.
I tend to do the same saucy chicken main, with green vegetable curry accompaniment. There are so many other dishes out there ...............

Scullion
My husband is an utter romantic. He's not a flower buyer, but is quite slushy in other ways.

Haven’t had a Feb 14th meal for yonks. Bad experience years ago, 13th more significant for us. We’d booked a poshish place for a couple of nights. Evening meal on the 13th was lovely, good food, attentive staff and nice area for post meal coffee, all at our leisurely pace. 14th was the opposite. Never again.

We shall go out for lunch today somewhere nice, but that’s it. No flowers nor chocs. OH still has a pile of post Christmas chocolates to get through and flowers are not only a rip off, but roses are flown in from Africa!

Hope you all have a lovely time whatever you do.

One grandson gave his girlfriend a trip to Prague for a Christmas present - didn’t realise at the time it was Valentine’s weekend - prices are high. He’s messaged to say it’s cold! And hotel a bit posh for them - came down to breakfast in their joggers, other guests are in suits and dresses! Bless him.

Pinched this off a lady friend's Facebook, but it's probably not a million miles from mine...

Valentine's Day Plan
1. Breakfast in bed.
2. Chocolates.
3. Dinner for two
4. Watch movie.
5. Regret eating two dinners.

We once went to Marrakech for a week that, by chance included St Valentine’s Day

Which coincided, as it turned out with Eid, and they were slaughtering sheep in the alleys and burning the heads, not good for poor OH who was really squeamish (funny, he was brought up among farms and would eat anything)

We did have a lovely romantic dinner at Chez Jacqueline

I think my programm might resemble Sakkarin’s, or I might pour a large gin and binge watch Fleabag

An M&S meal deal for us too. I’m cooking though as OH is banned from doing so.

The "cooking with some cheffie friends fell through :crying1
So my Valentine´s Day so far has been:
Go to the Farmer´s Market to buy fresh veg
Get a haircut
Take some of my curry powder to the chef at the French Embassy
Collect some money
Give the dog a bone

My homemade card went down like a lead balloon. He couldn't tell what it was = flowers.

I've been filling my fountain pen, thinking the same thing I always do.
Where does the ink go?!
I haven't used it for a couple of weeks, but the piston is empty.

Whatever you are doing, have a lovely evening.

Oh dear, that's a bit tragic about the card :-(

I haven't used my fountain pen for 49 years, it's probably dried out too...

I am not up to much unfortunately, so hubby cooked a gorgeous paella (no meat, just prawns and chickpeas with the usual ingredients -really good) and some churros to have with coffee later. No flowers, no cards, no chocolates...we're dead boring after 44 years of marriage).
