Some years ago my colleague, Nish(yes, very like Nish Kumar not Kumasi) was a bit worried because he was going to his friend’s birthday and because of the date it was a Burns Night supper He was a bit worried about haggis but as we talked about it, it emerged that his favourite school dinner was faggots. I said they were quite similar, though haggis was drier.

He absolutely loved the whole experience, especially the haggis, which came with plenty of gravy / sauce

I have a McSweens haggis and will serve it with whisky sauce, a not too oniony onion gravy spiked with Scotch. Most whisky sauce involved cream, which doesn’t work for me

I've not eaten haggis or faggots, but as a kid ate "ducks" which I imagine must have been similar ingredients, with heat from white pepper maybe, although they weren't in a casing IIRC.

Assuming Scotch pies (mutton) are Scottish, they might be a better option for those who prefer to chase haggis rather than eat it ;)

As far as I know faggots and “ savoury ducks” are one and the same

Not in a casing - outside America faggot means a bundle or loose heap
