Terrifying
Re: As we’re talking Aldi and Lidl
Not a gin drinker, but I have that problem at Christmas with Baileys. Invariably there's only half an inch in the bottom when it should be half full. Maybe someone's swigging it when I'm not looking...

The ones that you mentioned Smitch look the same as the ones that I bought. What did you think of the ones from Lidl?
I really like the Lidl ones, Renee. I got one each and we both agreed they were the nicest ones we’ve had in the UK.
The tarts we got in Belem looked nothing like the ones on their website
I bought a couple of tarts yesterday, purely for research purposes and ate them both as soon as I got back to the car ... they were delish ! That's all I can say about them really

Re: As we’re talking Aldi and Lidl
I shall get some this morning then.
I've had them in Lisbon too. Unlike Spanish pastries, I find they are just the right sweetness.
We've got several bottles of gin. Tony loves buying them on our various trips, but we never drink them (even our tonics go out of date).
I've had to stop him purchasing any more.

Yes, I definitely was a piggy piggy!
I bought a couple of the tarts. The flaky pastry was exquisite and just the way that I remembered it in Portugal. The creamy filling was lovely, but I wasn't sure that it was exactly the same as the tarts in Portugal, but it was a long time ago.

One of my guilty secrets is a bag of hula hoops with a sandwich.
Aldi's are less expensive and just as good.

I've never tried Hula Hoops, so I won't bother! I have quite enough bad habits!

I had a need to visit my local B&Q earlier in the week - the one in Bushey by the Arches, so had to drive past the newly opened Aldi in the retail park. Not an empty parking bay in sight ! . or not How is it doing Sakkarin ?

Re: As we’re talking Aldi and Lidl
I was there at 9 this morning Pat. The car park had spaces and there were about a dozen people in the shop. For once I didn’t have to queue.
Re: As we’re talking Aldi and Lidl
During the week Tescos opposite usually has loads of spare places at the Lidl/Aldi end - park up and pop across the road...
They're also doing building work which has swallowed up a whole swathe of parking places next to Aldi and made it awkward to get out too - I suspect that will all be resolved when they finish whatever they're doing there.
EDIT: Just realised that's probably no good if you're doing a full shop, I forget that I only get a backpackful at a time...

Re: As we’re talking Aldi and Lidl
Our local Aldi is just across the road from Morrisons, which I always think must irritate Morrisons no end.
It’s quite handy for parking, you can spend 90 minutes in one, dash back, move to the other one and you get 90 more minutes!
I have got into the habit of shopping for certain things in one and other things in the other. Aldi, for example, often has milk when Morrisons doesn’t, and usually with longer dates.

There's a big Lidl store being built right opposite the biggest Tesco store in my town - I strongly suspect that Tesco won't be pleased when it opens!
Re: As we’re talking Aldi and Lidl
My Aldi is across the road from Sainsbury's and both car parks are fairly full. My new Lidl is very close to Asda. Lidl's car park was quite full this morning, but Asda was fairly quiet and it's Friday!

Yep, Lidl is on the move here.
From inner town with no parking. To opposite Tesco.
And the Matalan site has been flattened for a new Lidl. In the space of one year. It must be costing a fortune jumping around sites like this.
Talking about the pasteis de nata.
I've tried 2 in Waitrose that were awful. Hard "preformed" pastry cup, with blueberry or raspberry added to the flat custard. I'll not have that again.
But I had an exquisite one in Coffee #1 in Stroud. Crumbly light and creamy.

Why do they do this stuff? That's doesn't belong in pasteis de nata, any more than chocolate or cranberries should appear in mince pies
